I love Beagles, although I've never had one myself. I really wanted to weigh in here because of some earlier comments:

She also howls when I play piano...it's really funny and weird.
I had a wonderul dachsund named Watney (he was a red barrel) for 10 1/2 years. Anyway, he would howl bloody murder when I would play certain types of music. Charles Mingus was a big culprit. He has a number of those beefy, rich horn arrangements that would drive Watney nuts. He would walk up to the speaker and start cocking his head side to side as the music began, and then start screaming. Literally, it sounded like I was whipping him or something. I actually had to stop listening to certain tunes unless I had headphones on, because I was afraid someone would call the police on me.
I never really knew if the music was bothering him, or if it just set of some chip in his head and he had to sing along. Another song that did this to him was "Matte Kudesai" by King Crimson, from their "Discipline" album.
The trick was to find a tune that had just a subtle effect on him. Certain tunes had just enough horns or something to get his attention, and you could sort of get him to sing/growl along with them at low level.
I miss that dog to no end.

Now I know where your "intellect" comes from.
