Lingerie Show At Gitmo…

Thu Jul 14, 2005 7:04 am

A military report presented before the Senate Armed Services Committee stated a Saudi man, described as the "20th hijacker" slated to have participated in the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on America, was forced by interrogators in late 2002 to wear a bra and had women's thong underwear placed on his head.

Guantanamo Bay interrogators degraded and abused a key prisoner but did not torture him when they told him he was gay, forced him to dance with another man and made him wear a bra and perform dog tricks, military investigators said on Wednesday.  laughing

If that's the alternative to torture, then I'm all for it.  Big grin

Since when do you have to prove someone guilty to interrogate them? I know you are referring to the reason they are there, but that is an entirely different issue, and belongs in a different thread.

That isn't interrogating, it is humiliation and taking out your anger because you "think" this person had something to do with those horrible attacks.

Humiliating someone is ok in my book, you just can't torture someone. God forbid we upset an accused terrorist.  Yeah sure

Anybody can be an accused terrorist in this administrations eyes. If they had actual proof that he was a terrorist, they wouldn't be hiding him from the US laws in that prison.

Humiliating someone inhumane? Give me a break. It's being used to help get info to help our troops overseas, not just for fun. When it was done for fun, you saw what happened to the guards. These people are lucky they weren't captured by some other nation that would do a lot worse than put panties on their head.

What do we have to gain as a nation by allowing such things to happen? Humiliation of this sort may or may not be tourture, but it certainly doesn't help our country.

I'm sorry, but when I saw the headline on Drudge Report, I couldn't help but chuckle. It's pretty funny. I suppose things do get pretty boring down at Gitmo. It's not torture, it's entertainment... (waiting patiently for 777236ER's whines)

I know people who would pay good money to be ordered around by soldiers whilst wearing a bra and panties.....plus several High Court judges and Conservative MPs

See this thread:

So, presumably, it will be perfectly acceptable for the Canadians to imprison the man and his daughter on a Canadian base in a foreign country, without charge, and "interrogate" them for several years?  scratchchin

Read your commentary in both threads - thought it was just as ridiculous in the other one and had no bearing on that topic . . . at least it has a tengent relationship here  sarcastic

-> as they feel as soldiers of the only remaining superpower of present times, they apparently believe to have the right for the most miserable behaviours ------ and of course are thoroughly surprised not to be the best loved nation on earth

-> you can interrogate him/them, but he is NOT (yet) "a terrorist" but at best/worst "a terrorism-suspect" . Yes, it very often IS style, words and (decent) behaviours that DO matter.

And the thong was Barbara "Babs" Bush's thong underwear. Used later for a sling.

But, hey, if a bra was good enough for J. Edgar Hoover, I say it's good enough for the 20th hijacker.

Seriously, its one thing to be concerned about torture and beatings and forced sleep deprivation for 72 hours. But a bra and a thong? Me thinks the lady doth protest too much.

And you have to admit its kinda funny. Sort of like the Benny Hill show featuring Abu Ali Crazy.

Yet again, thank you for indicating what is behind (or under) the fighting spirit of the U.S. Americans when defending the nation. I always learn a lot from this site, even though it is painful reading at times.

The US government has recently revealed their new interrogation techniques. These have been run by the media to make sure they were politically correct.

Interrogator:
Are you a terrorist?

Presumed bad guy:
No.

Interrogator:
Are you sure?

Presumed bad guy:
Yes.

Interrogator:
Are you sure you're sure?

Presumed bad guy:
Yes

Interrogator:
OK, you are free to go.

What the hell do they want us to do? We already found out the hard way beating the holy hell out of them, though effective and probably rewarding is bad. Now we aren't even allowed to hang underwear on their head and throw a book (The Koran) on the ground to try and offend these guys into giving up information that may save lives.

I think the reasonable person standard applies here. Most reasonable people will agree that beating the holy hell out of someone is wrong. However, I think you are going to be harder pressed to find people that find what is outlined in the new allegations of "torture" as wrong.

I had no idea being interrogated was supposed to be good for someone's self-esteem.
Things were better when it was two guys in a dorm room.
