Abercrombie & Fitch

Sat Jul 16, 2005 1:44 am

Does anyone else share my love for their clothing line?

Hollister and Ruehl too! The quality of their cotton is amazing, so soft..almost like velvet. Their clothes are young, hip and fun, and their colognes Rock!

Am I alone in this?

I'm wearing an A&F shirt right now. I love their stuff, although it is a bit expensive, and I have Fierce, their cologne.

I like their T-shirts because they are of good quality, and I wear Woods exclusively. But I don't get paying for ripped jeans.

it amazes how many people don't realize that Hollister has dark interiors to purposely hide the poor quality of their clothing.

and i'm not saying this because it's my opinion, i'm saying this because it's in their business plan.

I used to buy from them, when they were more like a rugged Brooks Brothers, but now that they are a Child Porn shop I refuse to buy from them.

http://www.scripophily.net/abfitcom1.html

The brand was established in 1892 and became known as a supplier of rugged, outdoor gear. It was acquired by The Limited Inc. in 1988 and in 1992 was repositioned as a more fashion-oriented casual apparel business. An initial public offering was held in 1996, where The Limited retained 84 percent of the company. It became independent in June 1998, when the remainder of the company was spun off to Limited shareholders.

Abercrombie & Fitch is a retailer of casual clothing and accessories for men and women targeting the collegiate demographic. The company operates over 200 stores including 14 "abercrombie" stores for children and teenagers -- and also publishes a quarterly combination magazine/catalog.

In 1892 Abercrombie & Fitch began under the name David T. Abercrombie Co., a small waterfront shop and factory in downtown New York City owned by David Abercrombie.

David Abercrombie, born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, was a former trapper, prospector, topographer and railroad surveyor. He was also an inventor, an ingenious designer of tents, rucksacks and other camping equipment. It was his love of the great outdoors that inspired him to begin Abercrombie & Co., a shop dedicated to selling only the highest-quality camping, fishing and hunting gear. His clientele consisted mostly of professional hunters, explorers and trappers. And a man named Ezra Fitch.

Sorry, I think they went over the top trying to sell to teeny twinkies and left their old customers behind.

I know that they have been very succesful, but I won't buy from them. I guess that makes me an old....

Yes, I admit that I hate A&F with a passsion. Same goes for their long arm Hollister. When someone wears something from them made within the last 10 years or so its like a walking billboard "Please beat the living sh!t out of me" Gives us Polaks something to do. Actually I once saw my friend whos Polish wear one and I told him he had about 2 minutes to change before I proceeded to knock the daylight out of him. I just threatened to call him American at first, that one always works  Silly

I hate A&F, Hollister, American Eagle, and Aeropostal. They all have over-priced crap and their selling point is pictures of people highlighting the fact that you will never ever look like them. I get better stuff at Express, Old Navy, and Macy's.

I'm an A&F wearer, but I almost boycotted after you have to walk into the store and see half next, ripped people all over. Even in the dressing room. Really makes you feel like crap, but what the hell. I wear all the overpriced crap so, in the end, I can't compalin.

As for the topic at hand. I don't really care for A&F. Not because it's overpriced - because it is. Not because it's pretentious - because it is. Not because you're likely to see someone wearing the same shirt that day - because you will. Simply because I do not like their clothes. Their jeans are ok, but I can think of better things other than jeans that I can spend $50-70 on. But, maybe at somepoint they'll put out some clothes that are nice and not terribly expensive and I'll consider it.

If Abercrombie and Fitch said that jumping off a bridge to your death was cool, we'd immediately lose 40% of the American teenage population.

My requirements for clothes are that they be comfortable and fit, doesn't matter what brand they are.

People think A&F is real style. Especially the teenagers - A&F is their version of Prada or Armani. But it's just not. It's clonewear. I admit, I like some of their things, but I just think it's stupid how people think it is extremely fashionable; it really isnt. And I don't have any of their things myself.

A&F is just Nazi propaganda in disguise. What they imply in their seasonal catalogues is that #1 you have to have blond hair and blue eyes to fit in (eliminates most of the natural population there), #2 if you are under 6 feet tall you are some sort of freak, #3 you have to be as thin as a pretzel, and #4 if you are not white you don't exist.

I had a friend who tried to model for A&F before the racism law suit a while back, but was rejected, in retrospect simply because he was the only Asian applicant during that interview. And mind you, he's a pretty good looking, tall individual.

Unfortunately in Mexico this is the trend...I have some A&F clothes, and I like them, but they're definately not my trauma. But here god! People get insane by A&F, it's almost like a uniform. Sad thing for us really... I remember the old A&F from 5 years ago...It was so different from the one today. The last time I went into the store I was so disappointed about what I found, none of them was of my like, plus the prices were just...ridiculous.

Whenever I see someone wearing an AF shirt, I think of that lame song from 1992, by Right Said Fred: "I'm too sexy". In fact, one of the lines from that bubble-gum song goes "I'm too sexy for this shirt..". Probably thinking of AF..

I've noticed that A&F, American Eagle and Hollister all seem to be really popular among Americans. It's strange in Europe I can always pick the young Americans out by the look that they wear from these stores, usually a polo shirt, baggy shorts with strings hanging from them, or jeans that are far too long with flip flops. Nothing against that look, but it's not my style. For myself I prefer the European chains for affordable clothes. Zara, Mexx, and for ultra disposable clothes H&M. Pepe Jeans, Bershka and Springfield are also favourites of mine, but hard to find in North America. I believe the Europeans have clothes that's a bit more daring and innovative (same with hairstyles). In Australia I really like Cotton On, I do a lot of shopping abroad I think I just don't like looking like everyone else.

Ah, no. A lot of gay boys wear A&F so they can show their gayness. In fact now if I see someone decked out in A&F I assume they're gay.

The real difference between straight A&F wearers and gay A&F wearers is the tightness of the shirts and jeans.

You and I both, if you add Banana Republic, Urban Outfitters and Diesel to the list. It's all about the comfort- jeans and a polo-style shirt is pretty much my daily deal.

I like some of the A&F stuff, but I refuse to pay that much for a pair of their jeans. I'll go and buy Diesel before I get A&F ripped up jeans. If you shop it right, you could get Diesel for $40 less than A&F.

I'd rather have a Ralph Lauren ballcap (like I had before I wore it out), and Ralph Lauren men's fragrances (I wear Romance - hard to go wrong).

I agree. Went to the Polo outlet today, and now I'm a happy man.  Wink

I've only been to Aeropostal once,

Quoting MAH4546 (Reply 17):
Hate them all you want, but American Eagle and Aeropostal are budget minded brands that are anything but overpriced.

Quoting Seb146 (Reply 15):
I hate A&F, Hollister, American Eagle, and Aeropostal.

Aeropostale is the correct spelling for the books.

Quoting TedTAce (Reply 45):
How did this whole thread go by with out a picture of an A&F model?
