I Just Had An Idea...

Tue Jul 19, 2005 2:56 pm

I know chances are someone else has already come up with the idea but I've never heard of it so here it goes...

Myself, and many others I know use their nalgenes in hot weather as well as cold weather, and put both hot and cold liquids in their nalgenes. So... my idea is why not make a nalgene that will keep cold liquids cold in hot weather and hot liquids hot in cold weather? All they would need to do is take the standard nalgene bottle, wrap a thin layer of insulation around it, slap on another layer of the stuff the bottle is made of over that, and make the plastic cap 2x thicker, and yer set. I think its a brilliant idea... I have 3 nalgenes and would be lost without them, and I wouldn't think twice about buying an insulated version....

yes, but it wouldn't be just any thermos, it would be a nalgene so you know it would be one solid indestructable thermos with a lid that don't leak....

Those tall metal thermoses are pretty damn near indestructable. They get dented, but that just adds personality. And I've never had a problem with one leaking.

I managed to get a hole in one with a pick ax, couldn't manage to do that to a nalgene.  Wink

How knowledgable are you in the science of heat transfer? Based upon this idea, probably not that hot. A thin layer of insulation would help, but wouldn't keep liquid hot or cold for that long. Thermoses are pretty tough nowadays, maybe you should speak to their warranty dept about your pick ax problem!
