What are your weird habits/quirks?

Do you have any rituals that you do that might be considered weird, etc?

I'm obsessive/compulsive, so you can assume that pretty much everything I do is a weird habit.

I often do my best work, feel like doing my best work instead of a half ass job like ussual, and come up with my best ideas in the wee unholy hours of the morning when 90% of the time I can't do anything about it till the next day by which I either don't feel like working on said project any more or forgot my brilliant idea...

I prefer most colas uncarbonated and my pizza cold.

I can't stand it when food is steamy hot; I'd rather it be luke-warm.

I put ice cream in the microwave for a few seconds to soften it up.

I like beer cold, but not THAT cold.

I hate putting a dirty napkin back onto my lap at a restaurant - it defeats the purpose (I tend to crumple it up before wiping with it, so trying to keep one side clean to put it back down doesn't work for me)

We my friends notice this one... my accent changes depending on if I'm in a formal or informal environment and this happens without me noticing.

I have a laissez faire anal retentive personality. It drives me nuts.

I'm a chronic nail biter and have been such since I was 2 yrs old. It's not bad...I don't make my fingers bleed and can still pick up a dime from a tabletop.

No sugary soda pop allowed in my truck. Sugarless is OK. I HATE sticky door handles, seats, etc.

I hate it when people say: NUCULAR instead of nuclear. AX instead of ask. LIBARY instread of library. FEBUARY instead of February. And use "learned" instead of "taught:" "I learned my boy how to say nucular when he ax when we was at the libary in Febuary."

Everything has a place, and it needs to be in that place. When I need it again, I know where to go get it. If it's not there, I get  grumpy  .

I can't stand disorganization. Things on my desk are stacked and arranged in a specific order. Things in my file cabinet are the same. Most used first, and chronological.

I clean, starch and press all my clothes except suits, t-shirts, underwear and socks. I'd prefer the starch be heavy enough so that any given pair of pants/slacks or shirt stand up by themselves. And when they hang in the closet, there is an order to it. Short Sleeve Pull Over Dress, Short Sleeve Pull Over Casual, Long Sleeve Pull Over Dress, Long Sleeve Pull Over Casual, Short Sleeve Button Down Dress, Short Sleeve Button Down Casual - you get the idea.

I can't stand a dirty vehicle. Inside or out. I'll probably need a paint job on the BAFDT before it's 5 years old because of the number of washings it gets. Winters kill me up here because the BAFDT is instantly dirtied as soon as I leave the garage. Not to worry, the garage is heated and has a floor drain.

Kitchen items MUST be stored with the label facing front and with a semblence of order - veggies with veggies, sauces with sauces, dry goods with dry goods, etc. whether they be in the cabinets or the refrigerator. Anything stored in the frig that has been opened will be sealed in a container or a Zip-Lock type bag.

Nope, nothing is in there long enough to reach an expiration date . . . I do spend what is probably more time than necessary in the grocery checking those dates though prior to purchase.  thumbsup

Might be a bit anal-retentive, but I don't have to spend 30 minutes trying to find anything . . . if I do someone has fawked with me stash . . .  biggrin

Funny that - my brother is a total neat-freak - gets it from my Dad. He has small kids though, and it drives him nuts (hehe !) I on the other live in a semi-permanent state of total chaos, punctuated by periodic frenzies of tidying up and cries of "Oh, THAT'S where that went ! I've been looking for that for ages !".

-My room is always in a mess, and my school papers, books, etc are never organised but when it comes to my PC, everything is perfectly organised.

-My accents also change, I have a fluent English accent but with some people I use a more "broken down" accent of English (its usually with those who are not very good at speaking English).

I always poke at a small cyst I have under my chin, beneath the skin, when I get nervous.

And, I have a tendency to drink sips of soy sauce for some weird reason. It's not like I sit and have a glass of the stuff, but I will take little tastes all the time if it is around me. LOL.

Also, when I come to a stop light, I'll often say to myself, "If I can count to ten before the light turns green, then I will have a good day, or certain 'bad' things won't happen, etc.

Wow...what don't I do that's weird.

I spend all of my day at work posting in the non-av part of an aviation board.

I always get up in the morning to the left.

I used to talk to the goalposts. Not only when the puck hit one, I'd say nice save, thanks, but when there was no action in my end, I'd stand there and talk to them/myself.

ANC, that is a little freaky. But, like you said, at least you know where everything is at all times. I wish I was a little more organized myself, not quite to that degree, but a little.
This is the Last Stop.

* Most people bite their nails, but not me... I bite my pen/pencil/whatever writing instrument I have at hand.

* I'm too nit-picky when it comes to spelling mistakes (both in English and Spanish). I can't stand them! My sister won't ask me to help her with her homework because I keep pointing out her spelling mistakes instead of actually helping her out  Silly

* I usually scratch my nose when I'm nervous (such as, when I'm happily posting here and then manage to minimize the browser window a nanosecond before the boss walks into my office  relieved  )

And the ultimate sign I'm being far from normal:  crazy

* I spend waaaaay too much time on A.net  Smile

I like Peanut Butter and mayonnaise sandwiches....

I start walking on my left foot. (Old marching band habit)

I hate soda cans rolling around in a car.

I like "off-beat" music.

I rub my hands together when I'm uneasy.

I like having my hair tugged. I discovered this when my daughter, at age 6,
tried to stay up late one night, and told me she'd give me a nice hairdo. She got to pulling on my hair, and it felt great.

I get crazy if I don't mow my lawn, every couple of days.Even when it doesn't need it.

I can tell you down to almost the exact moment, the LAST time I ate fruitcake at Christmas, as I got so violently ill on a shag throw rug (It was 1970) the rug had to be thrown away.

I was visiting my mother down in SoCal and was stuck at her place without a car so I had nothing to do other than eat an entire fruitcake and drank an entire punch bowl of egg nog & brandy.

That's wierd that so many of you mention that your accents change.

While teaching in the UK, I picked up a West Midlands accent. It rears its ugly head everytime I go back to the UK or talk with British folks here.

I'm told I do a dead on Ozzy imitation. It's fun to order pizza using it.  Big grin

1) I hate walking in grass (barefoot or with footwear). It gives me goosebumps
2) I hate my fingers to be sticky (please reserve sophomoric comments  Wink )

I'm afraid of heights yet I have no problem piloting a plane at 12,500 ft....

I would never skydive yet I wear a chute why piloting the Citiabria...

I'm so clumsy with my left hand yet I can control a car or a yoke on a plane - that has my hide in it - and haven't had an incident or extremely rough landing yet while using my left hand...

Hangs to the right...

Side effects from working in Corrections:

  • In a room full of people, especially restaurants, I will always try to keep my back to the wall. The reason being that in prison the chow hall was a popular place to start trouble and as an Officer, you were outnumbered big time.
  • I need to verify that doors are locked and latched by testing the knob and by trying to push the door open.
  • I frequently check to see if my keys are still in my possession when I'm out and about.
  • I must know where the exits are located, in case of trouble.

Other wierdness:

  • I don't mind heights, as long as I can look down. Just don't ask me to look up.  scared
  • If my morning routine (shave, shower, comb hair, brush teeth, deodorant/cologne, get dressed) is interupted, I will forget one of the steps, usually brushing or deodorant.
  • I can't stand wind blowing directly on my face, unless I'm on a motorcycle.
  • I almost always know which way North is, even when I'm in unfamiliar surroundings.
I lift things up and put them down.

And here are 3 of mine (from a frighteningly long list!):

1. I cannot shower in a wet shower or bathtub. If I have to shower, the shower area needs to be dry before I can use it.
2. Before I eat anything, the fork goes to my nose. If I don't like the smell, I can't eat it.
3. I won't go anywhere in a car unless there's a bottle of water in it.

RE: What Are Your Weird Habits/quirks?

Quoting ShyFlyer (Reply 37):
If my morning routine (shave, shower, comb hair, brush teeth, deodorant/cologne, get dressed) is interupted, I will forget one of the steps, usually brushing or deodorant.

That happens to me in the shower... if I don't do everything in sequence, I've been known to forget to rinse the shampoo out of my hair.

Also,

2. I remember numbers. I don't know why. Telephone numbers I haven't dialed in thiery years, license plates for cars I no longer own... it's bizarre. I don't even bother programming my phone--all I have to do is dial a number once or twice and it's mine forever.
3. Like many here, I can't function in a messy workspace. Unfortunately, my work area consists of a glass desk in my house, and this place gets dusty faster than anything I've ever seen. So I end up pulling everything off the desk to wipe it down at least 3-4 times a week.
4. I frequently get insomnia, and I find the easiest way to deal with is to turn on a light. Have no clue why that helps me fall asleep, but it does.  Yeah sure

I cannot fall asleep unless there is some form of noise, at home I always have a radio playing. I hate hotels because their alarm/radios do not function the same as home. I guess it comes from field time and ship borne time, where there is always some noise going on. On most Canadian warships the messdecks for the zoomies was right above the props(sounds like a washing machine).
