Heh.

Most of the fools behind these such antics are just out to make a name for themselves, and with a name like "Jack Thompson", seems like he's gonna have to do better than this  Silly

Wow. What can I say? How do people like this explain how criminals existed long before video games? Also, Japan has some of the absolute sickest computer games and comics ever created and yet they also have some of the lowest occurrence of crime per capita for any industrialized country. I wonder how they manage to keep their society from falling apart.  Big grin

Does this thompson guy have a life?

As far as pedophiles "rehearsing for their abuse" I can't help but feel this game isn't going to fine tune there skills any better than five minutes worth of TV commercials would. What's he gonna do? There's no 'lure child into van with candy' interaction and surely even a pedophile would have better things to do than help a sim child with their homework, which was the only adult/child interaction that ever popped up while I was managing my sim household for the few hours before I realised I could be doing my own homework and sold the game.

At least with the TV he's got the chance of running into one of those 'huggies' ads...now that's the good stuff  Wink

Cheers,

I don't see what the problem is. When there is nudity in the game it makes it blurry to cover the nudity. They (the game maker) say that even if the blurriness were to be removed by a code the nude people would look like a ken or barbie doll without any clothes on.

Which brings up another point. How can he disapprove of The Sims Adult-Children interaction and be fine with the selling of toy figurines that depict children?

This guy spends too much time undressing Barbie dolls.

I'd say this attorney's wallet is bigger than his moral values, but someone needs to take a good stand on how games are held accountable for their content.

I went to the Game Developers' Conference in San Jose a few years back and met the guy who directed the whole SIMS software. He was kind of a dork.

This guy needs to get a life, hackers and mods can hack any games code and can pretty much do what they want with if they have the programming skill, surely the gaming companies can't be held responsible for the way their product is used. It the same thing as the makers of bit torrent and similar products aren't responsible for the content that users share through their application.

What the hell are you talking about, I spent two hours last night playing God of War, hacking mythical beasts apart on the streets of Athens and this morning I do not have the urge to go out and start hacking people apart. People commit crime beacuse there fucked up in the head not because they played a computer game, watched a movie or read book.

The problem is that these games are often purchased by or for under 18's/minors and some of the material is questionable for them in terms of sexual and violent content. Such games may encourage an unhealthy view of sex and violence in some impressionable minds and far too many parents don't do their job and purchase or allow the purchase of some of these games without realizing their content. Worse, is that some parents want the government to help them babysit and raise thier kids as they don't have the time or ability to understand or screen everything for them. Besides the holy rollers think that young people ought to be in church, not playing games.

I've got The Sims with the nudity blur removed and its just a formless body under the blur. As said above, it's like looking at a Barbie or ken doll.

What the hell are you talking about,

You're missing my point entirely. Regardless of what you do, or what any other gamers may do, there still needs to be regulation of this industry. Why do we have the FCC? Why do we have ratings on movies?

Can you explain to me why the video game industry is an exception to the rule?
