"Who do you think you are, Michael Schumacher?!!"

How did they fine him in Euros? They still use the Turkish Lira.

I guess he still drives a "road vehicle" therefore he should still pay the toll!

The only things that make him different from everybody else, are the fact that he is famous and that he drives a supercar, but I don't see how that gives him privileges when it comes to toll's.

Quote from article: "he was hit with a whopping fine of 20 euros - that's £13.75 in old money."

Well, this article was on BBC-news. So why do they call their £ "old money" ? Will the U.K. soon convert to the Euro ?!
Did I miss something here ?
Or is it due to the fact that David Coulthard is Scott and the Bank of Scotland was trying to get the Euro as the official currency for Scotland several years ago ?

But a F1-car does not have any registration plate! Therefore it should not be allowed to use public roads (i.e. roads on which public traffic still is allowed to carry on while the F1-car is on it).

How did he get through the presumed (by me at least) toll gates? F1 car low enough to limbo under?  silly

It's called irony. Germans are not required to understand.  Wink

Well, I thought I could read between the lines even in english publications, but obviously, I didn´t get that point (and I couldn´t resist to tickle the British soul with that Euro  Smile ).
Never mind.

Have fun !

Now for something serious:

In those turkish holiday resorts, nobody from the Euro-zone ever changes their money into Turkish Lira; they always pay in Euros. Looks like the Euro has become the second official currency in Turkey (like it is the first official currency in Montenegro, IIRC).

No they closed the road for him as part of the publicity for the new Turkish GP next month - but still they fined him !!!!

In THAT case, it´s NOT okay, of course.
I thought that the road was closed like they do in other cities, too.
Didn´t they make a show of F1-racing on London´s The Mall recently (or am I totally wrong here, though its not yet too hot outside - barely 29 °C) ?

That's fabulous for Red Bull: an (almost) free advertising...

Before this fine came up on the news, nobody but the Turks were aware of this promotional event...

In the end, it also adverts the Turkish F1 Grand Prix: e.g. my girlfriend, when she saw that on the Yahoo!News, said: "Is there a F1 GP in Turkey?... Oh I didn't know that.". Not that she's so interested in F1, but still, that's the way it sprays...

That's a perfect win-win situation  Smile

Anyway, Go Renault! Go!, we'll eat them all! (I couldn't help myself sorry Big grin)

Cheers!

Btw. Why were they making a show in Istanbul when this weekends GP is in Hungary ?
I assume they used a T-Car for this ? Or even one of the cars used for testing only ?

The irony is not to be found in the semi-independent Duchy of Cornwall.
This is an Eastern mediterranean way of making fun, in this case not at Coulthard (the instrument), but at the (police) colleagues at the other side.

It is a set up of course and it works like this:
It is a promotional event, traffic is barred, police cordon off the area.
Early morning, the chief in charge has instructed his forces that no traffic infringements will be tolerated that day, none.
One squad is aware of the set up, the other not (usually newcomers in the force).

Everything works as planned, Coulthard is stopped and fined (no headlights, no licence plate, no first aid kit, etc...).
The squad at one end have the laugh of the year and they will tell the stories throughout their career.
The gullible (but law abiding) might understand the lesson and will copycat the trick later on.
