Before A.net

Mon Aug 01, 2005 3:10 am

Hey guys, How is everyone doing today?

As I am only 16 to young to really remember the days before the internet I was curious to hear about what you did before A.net came on the internet, did you visit other sites or have local clubs...

Thanks

brad

Errr well, I can't remember what I did really. I didn't use the internet back then because I was so young and there weren't really that many good sites around. Not many good sites for a 12 year old anyway... Big grin. It wasn't really until the 21st century that I found any sites that were worth visiting regularly. The only website that I did used to go to was ASN because I found it fascinating reading about air crashes (the main reason I 'got' into aviation and A.net).

I walked around telling complete strangers to "Do a search, dammit!" or "learn to spell, loser!" Things like that.

Thank God for aDOTnet to give meaning to those words.

Given the fact that I rarely have time anymore to post on a.net....That would mean I have a life outside this website.

So before I discovered a.net, I still had a life.

Looked for cheats in our Atari 2600 games, dialed up to BBS systems and Fidonet, and played BattleZone before it was available in an electronic version.

Yes, I really am THAT friggin' old.  irked

There's always something to be read, be it a.net, a book, some newspaper or whatever else. In fact a.net was very helpful in terms of learning English.

Hummer is correct. I could only add that most of us probably actually EARNED our paychecks a little more, rather than surfing A.net "on the clock"  Silly

I can't really remember what I did before the internet, mostly played worthless games on the computer or Sega.

As much as I hate to say, you're right on the money. I was MUCH more active, and I spent a lot more of my time outside, until this site became REALLY active, especially when I found the forums.

Of course, that assumes there's a "clock" to be concerned with.

When your clock is based on your un-regulated productivity and you surf a.net on YOUR time, is when it's truly pathetic.  Yeah sure

Before A.net I had to wake up at 4am and walk 25+ miles to the airport in rain, snow, sleet, hurricanes and volcanic eruptions just so I could read/write discussion topics using post-it notes on a cork board.

Before a.net, I watched more idiot box. Now I rarely have it on, maybe half hour a day on MSNBC or CSPAN while cooking dinner.

Guess a positive unintended consequence of a.net.

Yes, A.net helped me very much to improve my English and I am glad about it.

Additionally (and the most fun of A.net)--> A.net made it possible that I could meet people from all over the world, sometimes I visted them in their home countries, sometimes we met in another country than our home countries, and sometimes they visited me in my home country, this is so great and I hope to meet more of you guys!

Beautiful!

Before A.net...I didn't know as much about aviation and airplanes as I do now...I didn't "know" people all over the world...I didn't appreciate just how cool it is to live about 15 miles from the Boeing plant in Everett...I programmed a VIC-20 in Assembler!  Smile
