Is a crisp the same as potato chip? If so eat it. The green has something to do with something that starts with a G that I learned in Bio-101 a couple of years ago. Sorry for the long-winded technical answer.

As you know, crisps are made from potatoes.
---------------------
Are green potatoes safe to eat?

No, the green section may contain naturally occurring poisons called alkaloids. Potato varieties are not released in Australia if they exceed the maximum level set for alkaloids. This rule minimises the chances of severe poisoning where green potatoes are accidentally eaten.

-----------
So, no it's not really safe to eat them as they may contain poisons.

I think alkaloids are the least of your worries. Any snack item where the Roast Beef flavour is suitable for vegatarians, and the cheese 'n onion flavour isn't, has some serious additive issues, and is best avoided.

More importantly - should you have been eating Ready Salted when there are far more delicious flavours to be eaten  yummy

Poppycock.

It's just "sunburned", meaning just "photosynthesized" potatoes that's taking on chlorophyll.

As discussed via e-mail Mr Cornish - I went for the safe bet as the green ones (which SHOULD be Cheese & Onion) and Salt 'n' Vinegar (which SHOULD be blue) are opposite in Walker's packets (WHY WHY WHY). Early on a Monday morning I went for the red as I don't think I could've done C&O before my first pint of meths.... boggled

I agree entirely. The unwritten law of the universe is that Ready Salted chips are in blue packets, and cheese-and-onion are green. Some at Walkers needs a slap.

See I would recommend a boycott of Walkers, but as they seemingly control the entire UK crisp industry now I'd be cutting off my nose to spite my face. After all I'd have t stop eating Pickled Onion Monster Munch and I don't think I have that much willpower  hissyfit

and why have they stopped making whispa chocolate bars! The team of whispa and cheeto beat wotsit and aero so why are we stuck with them

and I have to pay 2 pound fifty to get a packet of nerds imported from america  Sad its wrong!

Maybe we could have a chocolate bar Olympics...

Wispa v Aero

Oh Yes (remember them?) v Finger of Fudge (leave the innuendo for now, Cornish Wink)

Cheetos v Wotsits

Frisps v Discos

Pickled Onion Space Invaders v Scampi Nik Naks

Fish n Chips (in the newspaper like packets) v Mini Cheddars

and then we could diversify it....

Shandy Bass v Top Deck Larger & Lime

Cherry Coke v Vanilla (yuk yuk yuk) Coke

Anyone got any others...?

There are hundreds if not thousands of alkaloids. Some are completely non-toxic and others can be very toxic. To broadly call alkaloids poisons goes against fundamental principles of chemistry. I'm not sure the source of your obviously quoted statement, but I'd like to know more about Australia's policy. I doubt the official wording is as "unscientific" as what you posted.

So, go ahead and eat the damned thing. It won't kill you. And, BTW, call it a chip! Crisp is how you describe JGPH1A's underwear when he changes it every month.

Hardly. Having spent some time in the UK, and having several friends from there, I am completely aware of this. Just taking the Mickey.

Now, speaking of ignorance, what's your source for all the "poisons" we call alkaloids? Certainly, every chemical substance is "poisonous" to some degree, depending on the required dose to elicit such a response; however, many of the alkaloids are of great therapeutic benefit.
