Accepted For F/A!

Tue Aug 02, 2005 3:13 am

I've been accepted to train for the flight attendant position with Independence Air! I've been wanting to do this for a long time, and I'm so excited that the opportunity has come up! With that, I am wondering if there's anyone here who might already work for Independence, or who may be a flight attendant, that can offer any advice as to what to expect, how the experience has been, etc...Thanks for reading!

Hey, you are in luck! I cribbed the final exam for your training!

Memorize this.

RED is Coke. GREEN is Sprite.

Say it under your breath from now until the last day of training.

My apologies to all you highly-trained, hard-working flight attendants out there. That is one of my favorite jokes and I just couldn't resist.

I hope you get treated well. They're a bit... Rough with they're employees.. I'm surprised they're hiring considering their financial troubles..

Wow, doesn't sound like there's a lot of confidence in the airline. They are going through a little difficulty, but after asking around, it seems as though everyone that has experienced them (from a passenger's perspective) has thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Perhaps that could mean better things in the not-so-distant future. Maybe I'm just an optimist, but I'm pretty confident that it'll be a wonderful experience for me. Cheers!

Do you know which aircraft you're going to be working/ which aircraft are you currently training on?

I hear that Independence gives their passengers "warm towels" aka, handwipe towellettes heated in the microwave!

Have fun, I hope to see you sometime either at the IAD hub or on a BTV-IAD flight! for the most part, flyI F/As love to have fun on their flights (read some of the TRs around), but I'm not so confident about their future.. but hey, at least you'll have some experience on RJs to later get hired by the regional guys.

From what I understand (and this is true of many airlines), I will be trained on both aircraft types (CL-65 and A319) because their flight attendants must be able to switch from one to the other throughout their schedules (i.e. One might fly BTV-IAD on a CRJ, then IAD - LAX on an A319).

I'm sure that even *if* that's the case, it's a lot more than many other (domestic) airlines offer, yes? Cheers,

Actually they are in little plastic containers and you put the hot water from coffee makers in them. CAn burn yourself easily..

Man, you've got a lot to learn about US Domestic airlines..

Because, to be honest, there is not a lot of confidence to be had. Just because pax like an airline does not mean it will survive. They have to make the $$ to survive. Also, they have mx issues, do a search in civil av and you should find at least the one about the fine they got by the FAA for not doing proper checks on an a/c (or something like that). Ever since they ended their regional status as ACA, they were doomed to fail.

Good luck, I hope you have fun while it lasts.

You'll hafta excuse my ignorace - of the many times I've flown with AA, DL, and US (the main three I've flown with), I've never received hot towels. Perhaps they offer them on longer hauls...

True, but then if passengers experience great service coupled with reasonable fares, and an excellent safety record (FAA fines notwithstanding - I haven't heard of any ACA/Independence Air crashes lately, have you?), and airline is going to see more repeat customers, which in turn brings the $$. That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it!
