$20 Million Movie Studio To Be Built Near MSY

Tue Aug 02, 2005 1:34 pm

This may only be of interest to some, but here it is...

"In a move designed to boost Louisiana’s film industry, a group of private investors is announcing today the construction of a $20 million Algiers movie studio able to accommodate both feature film and television production. Sunset Gower Studios — the new name for the former Columbia Pictures Studios — plans to build a studio with five soundstages, 200,000 square feet of office space and digital post-production facilities. The state-of-the-art studio is intended to fill a void in Louisiana’s three-year quest to develop a major motion picture film industry."

In case some of you are wondering, Algiers is just across the river from New Orleans. This is a huge shot in the arm for the local film industry, and for the local economy as a whole.

Yeah... movies were phase I, and tremendously successful. Hence the Hollywood South designation.

Now they want SitCom/PrimeTime production done in-state, as well as to attract the video game industry with the same success that SFO has had out west.
