Anyone Familiar With 5 Guys Burgers?

Thu Aug 04, 2005 11:06 pm

Hey Guys,
I wanted to ask if anyone is familiar with Five Guys Famous Burger resturants?
http://www.fiveguys.com/

In the town where I live, one is soon to open, and in the news, it says the company plans for up to 39 stores in this region.

Now, you have to understand, I am a food lover to the n'th degree. And burgers are one of my guilty pleasures.  yummy
However, I have never heard of, much less tasted burgers from this place. I see from their website that they are top rated by Zagat, which I'm sure is deserved. But as I said, I have no expirience with them. Hell, I've never had a chance to try an In an Out either!

So, what's it like? Anyone? Anyone?

Please indulge me.

Thanks in advance!

Russ

I've eaten at one, once. I don't recall them being anything special. Overall a pretty good burger and really good fries. The restaraunt themselves are a bit on the dive side, but maybe it was the particular location I was at. Overall I think they are pretty comparable to Fuddruckers.

Thanks DesertJets,
If they are anything like Fuddruckers, I'm there!
The unfortunate thing is that they have selected a location that hasen't done very well for anything else that has gone in there. It is near a pretty busy intersection, just off the interstate, right next to Burger King, across the street from Denny's and there is an Italian resturant on the other side. Other businesses haven't succeeded there. Over the 15 years I have lived here, that building has been: A Hardee's, a car lot, a chinese carry out, a Vietnamese Resturant, and most recently, a BoJangles Chicken.

I hope that the quality of Five Brothers will overcome whatever shortcomings this location seems to have. I am looking forward to indulging myself.
Now, if only Baja Fresh or Chipoltle Grill would come to town, I'd be set!
 yummy

Fuddruckers is amazing. I get the 1lb cheese burger (they use 2 slices of cheese for it)  Wink that fills me up for the remainder of the day. They also have the best buns for hambugers ever!

If memory serves correctly, they have several places in the DC area . . . if that's the crew, then some of the best burgers and fries you can get . . .

I'm taking notes guys I want to experience a serious burger when I'm over in the States next.
I'm going to a place called Max and Ermas that my girl friend recommends, the burgers look a little up market but still good!

Where in the states will you be? There are good burger places in different regions of the US.

ANCFlyer... Five Guys is mostly in the DC area. The one I went to, once, was on Route 7 and Beauregard in Alexandria.

http://www.fiveguys.com/

They do make a big deal about their fries, which are pretty good. The signage in their store makes mention that they use peanut oil to cook them (which isn't the most healthy oil, but it imparts a lot of flavor).

Jamman... As far as the chains go Fuddruckers probably has the best overall burger. I think this is the case because they grind the meat in store and make the patties in store. If the butcher is there you can see him do his thing as you wait to make your order. Plus you can choose whatever toppings that you like. Essentially you get a bare burger to top as you please. The fries are ok, but their onion rings are pretty good.

Yup, with a TGI Fridays across the street . . . been there, done that, it was closest to my first apartment in Alexandria.

Excellent burgers, best fries. . . .

They're so ridiculously good it hurts me to think about the fact I'm not there right now.

The ones actually inside DC serve beer too. Mmmm.

Russ,

You do not live far away from me. I am in the suburbs of DC. There is currently a "5Guys" place open in Germantown, MD which is about an hour away from you.

I've been there twice and love it. It is very similar to "CheeburgerCheeburger" if you are familiar with those.

Bring "Jr" and I'll meet you for a burger.  Smile

Thanks Curt.

We may take you up on that offer. I'll check my schedule and see when we might be able to come down. Maybe we'll plan another trip to Air and Space at Dulles.
Feel free to contact me by email.

Keep in touch!

Made famous by Thrashers French Fries in Ocean City Md, by far the best french fries I have ever had.

As for 5 guys, I stop at the one in the Largo Town Center (across from Fed Ex Field) every time I am up there. Great Burger
Where did everybody go?

Yes! We had a Five Guys Burger joint right next to my high school along the Arlington Co/Alexandria Co. boundry and go there all the time for lunch. The best part about it is all you can eat roasted peanuts while they cook your burgers.  Smile
