French Polynesian Experiences?

Sat Aug 06, 2005 10:57 am

I am looking into going on a trip to French Polynesia and was wondering if anyone would have any insight on these beautiful groups of islands.

I will be flying to PPT, and staying there for about 2 nights. Then going on to either Bora Bora, or Moorea.

I would love to go to Bora Bora, but I know it is a pretty penny there. Hence Moorea would be much more economical than Bora Bora. But I can't go all the way to Tahiti without seeing Bora Bora.

Here are some great pics of the islands and TN's 343!

This is certainly one of my favorites.

I know I'm not adding too much to this thread as I have never been there, but everything I have read leads me to believe you can't go wrong on any of those islands.. I think your own pictures bare that out.

Having been lucky enough to go to both Moorea and Bora Bora, I can say they are both very beautiful places. At the end of the day, you will enjoy either of them. Do keep in mind that Moorea is pretty much right next to Tahiti, while Bora Bora is a bit further away. I believe the ferry trip from Papeete to Moorea is less than an hour, so I think you could quite easily make it a day trip during your saty in Papeetee, if you were wanting to visit both Moore and Bora Bora.

One other thing you may want to consider is that the Southern Hemispher summer is the wet season - I went in December, and unfortunately it rained a fair bit. The place certainly had its own beauty in the wet too, but it would have been nice to see Bora Bora under sunny skies...

I hope this is helpful,

Bora Bora is fantastic, you have to go ! I spent 4 days there en route to New Zealand once, and it was gorgeous, and not THAT expensive - I found a little hotel called the Hotel Matira, and had a palm-thatched hut on stilts all to myself, about 20m from the beach, surrounded by frangipani trees. It was heaven. Snorkelling in the lagoon is amazing, especially near the outer motu's, the visibility is unbeatable.

I didn't visit Moorea, except as a transit stop en-route from BOB back to PPT - I changed planes and took the Air Moorea Islander to PPT - brilliant fun, much better than the ferry. Do that too.

How much did others who went there spent and how long did you guys stayed?
Just curious, as French Polynesia is among my list of places I wanna go.

I believe there is a cutie-pie AF F/A based in French Polynesia as a member here. I cannot think of his user name at the moment.

I was in French Polynesia in April, and had a wonderful time. Busy saving up the air miles to return in April 2006.

For Me Moorea was a let down compared to Bora Bora. Can I suggest that you visit Bora Bora and a wonderful often overlooked island called Huahine.

We stayed at the intecontinental Bora Bora, which was superb, and a small ** hotel in Huahine that was the find of a decade (Pension Mauraii).

Go and have a wonderful time. Worry about the bills later.

BTW - excellent website www.tahiti-explorer.com just click on the forums from there.
