First Trip To Lambeau

Sat Aug 13, 2005 6:52 am

Yesterday, I went and attended my first game ever at Lambeau Field. Living here in Packer Nation, it could be more adequately called a pilgrimage. My family was able to get the tickets for this preseason game against the Chargers from our neighbors.

San Diego Chargers vs. Green Bay Packers
7:00 pm

We left our home in the Milwaukee suburbs at around 3:30. After fighting through some traffic on I-43, we arrived in the Green Bay area around 6. We took a roundabout way to avoid some traffic, and parked in a church lot about 2 blocks away.

After walking through a drizzle and captivating tailgate aroma, I got my first view of Lambeau. It really looks beautiful after the 2003 renovations. They did a great job of combining the old time feel and history with outstanding modern facilities.

Outside of the new atrium entrance, i spotted the Packer Pope. I did not hesitate to go for a picture with him!  Smile

We checked out the interior of the new atrium and then did a semi circle around the concourse to our seats. They were in the end zone corner about halfway up.

Packer intros...

Rain was in the forecast, and the evening did not disappoint. The weather fluctuated from light drizzle to downpour throughout the evening. Needless to say, I got soaked, and my mother ended up with one disgusting funnel cake.

Brett and Co. take the field!

After an uninspiring first quarter from both sides, Favre hooked up with Donald Driver for an outstanding pass and catch for a TD in the 2nd.

At halftime i went and got a chicken strip basket with fries for a reasonable $6.50. Then I walked back out bracing to be soaked.

San Diego tied it up in the 3rd on a long 34 yard TD pass from Rivers to Quinnie.

Things really got sloppy in the 4th quarter. The Packers couldn't hold onto the ball for their lives in the conditions, and had several fumbles deep in their own territory. Fortunately, Nate Kaeding picked up from where he left off last season and missed THREE 4th quarter field goals from 44, 45, and 46.

With 2 minutes left, J.T. O'Sullivan drove the Packers just close enough to give Ryan Longwell a shot at the game. In a driving rain, the Packers veteran kicker drilled a line drive 53 yard field goal to put the Pack on top for good with 33 seconds left.

All in all, going to a Packer game is a great and memorable experience which was worth the wait!

Greetings to all...

Lucky bastard lol. I grew up in Milwaukee (NW side, near Timmerman Field), and the only match I have ever managed to get to was the last Packer game played at County Stadium. Seeing Brett dive into the end zone late in the 4th quarter to seal that win was priceless. I've still never been to Lambeau Field. One of these days I shall have to make a pilgrimage of my own - perhaps next fall, if I can take some holiday time.

Thanks for the report man. Sounds like you had a good time. Sad to see the score only got up to 10-7, would have probably been nice to see some more TD's. I really like that Pope guy! Wink

Yeah, but I couldn't have asked for more from the first TD.
