Suspensions In Big-league Sports?

Mon Aug 15, 2005 9:41 am

I agree with John Saunders of ESPN: getting suspended in a major league sport doesn't mean squat anymore. Consider if you will (all within the past week):

1) Kenny Rogers gets his 20-game suspension reduced (after abusing two cameramen)
2) Rafael Palmeiro is back after a "slap-on-the-wrist" 10-game suspension (positive steroid test). And the worst of all..........
.........3) Todd Bertuzzi is reinstated to the NHL after serving a roughly 20-game suspension (sucker punching Steve Moore, and driving his head into the ice, causing a concussion and other serious nuerological damage).

Rafael Palmeiro

It’s ridiculous. Say Palmeiro was an Olympic athlete – he’d be suspended for how long – an Olympiad not to mention stripped of his metals.

Will be interesting to see what happens this NFL season with the return of Ricky Williams.
