Just make sure you have plenty of spare payoff money for the Federali's.
You could also save yourself a lot of hassle and work more in. If you want to see the real "Mexican" culture, fly into LAX and rent a car. Take a drive down Atlantic or Lorena through East LA. Or Holt Blvd in Pomona. Or Slauson through Montebello.
If you want to see the "countryside", it's only a couple hour drive out to Brawley, Westmoreland, and the rest of the Imperial Valley. All of that is extremely close to the political boundary. But the climate/scenery is basically the same.

I am going to Mexico as well between 8 and 18 september. I arrive and depart in MEX (Mexico City). I'd like to make two or three domestic trips. Any tips which cities can be worthwhile and not too pricy to go? Are ticket prices the same at the airline offices or do travel agents give discounts, or on internet?
Any suggestions welcome.
