Problems Going Down...

Fri Aug 26, 2005 4:14 pm

Has anyone ever had trouble going down stairs?  Wink
Which foot first, left or right?

Oh, and will the perverts confess to thinking this was about something else  Wink

Left foot first, always.  Smile

At some point gravity takes over and whatever foot stops me from face-planting a stair is the foot that leads. Can be both, but most likely one or the other....

I put my body on the line for science!

Left foot first resulted in a safe descent.

Right foot first resulted in a cascading failure that ultimately had me heaped at the bottom of the stairs.

On ascent, it did not matter which foot came first, as long as I was climbing only one stair at a time. When switching to double stair climbing, left was the only option, as right would once again result in a cascading failure that would have me heaped in the middle of the stairs, then slide unceremoniously to the bottom.

Overall, I came to the following conclusion:

Science is always better with several pints ingested beforehand.  drunk

Assume a steady stance and firmly grasp anything within reach.

Pointless, but interesting fact about stairs: You can lead a cow upstairs, but it won't come back down again!  Silly

That would explain 10 or so cows we found on the top of a footbridge at Varanasi railway station in India!

Left foot I think. That's probably because the staircase curves to the right and the next right foot gets placed on the pivotal step. How about that for a Friday morning?!

Regarding cows, I believe if you need to herd them, herd them into the UPPER corner of a field, not the lower - it's far easier.

Better still, herd them into a building with an elevator - that way you avoid the problem of getting them back down the stairs  Wink
