What Are Gas Prices Like In Your City?

Sat Sep 03, 2005 1:34 am

Grand Forks, ND.

I drove by a few gas stations and the lowest price for regular unleaded was $2.89 a gallon. What is particularly annoying is the price for premium was $3.39 and above. I was talking to my mom back in Dallas and she said that some places were $3.19 a gallon for regular.

Funny. Here in Allston, MA mid-grade and super are just the same amount above regular as they usually are. Regular ranges from about $3.35 to $3.69 within a few blocks of each other. Mid and super - add ~$0.10 for each. I saw one station with Super at $3.89, and I got it right across the street for 30 cents cheaper. Crazy.

In reality, I see it anywhere from $2.89 to $3.09 depending on the stations' location. It jumps everyday roughly .10 cents except Tuesday when it jumped .25 cents and today when it jumped .15 cents at most stations.

I asked the guy here in MA, and he said it looks like the increases may be slowing, and things will start to trickle back down over the next few weeks. I realize the NO tragedy has a great deal to do with this, but I can't help but think that the timing of Labor day afforded petroleum companies an opportunity they couldn't pass up. So, while prices could reasonably be expected to go up due to the devastation from Katrina, IMO, they used this as a smokescreen to jack prices up even more that that alone would have dictated.

In Richmond, yesterday morning my father and I drove to work. We saw 2.85 a dramatic 40 cents increase from the previous days. When we come back we see 3.19, this is only a few hours later too. I feel like the world is coming to an end!

12.40 kronor/liter. 1USD = 7,50 Krona. And 67% of this is tax I think. And it will stay this way until we get a government change.

I filled my car yesterday for $2.75 per gallon. I'm getting 40-45 MPG not including my carpool days, so I'm doing fine so far. If I ever see them bust out an extra digit for the price of gas my eyes might fall out of their sockets, but until then I'm doing fine. Americans still pay far less than many other countries. There's no need to piss and moan about the prices just yet.

We're now paying $1.23 per litre of regular. It was $1.08 last night. However, the local gas stations give us a 3.5 cent / litre discount, so we're really only paying $1.19.5 per litre.

Houston, TX

Generally, $2.79-$2.99, with the non-branded gas (i.e. grocery store gas station) going for $3.19-$3.31.

Fortunately, no lines to fill up (at least not in west Houston this morning)

Just paid 89.9p a litre at a station before it bumped its price up. Current local average tonight is 94.9p

The Blackpool Crook is already charging £1.20 a litre (a notorious location which charges the highest price in Britain)

Our American friends might not have heard, but the oil companies are currently loading 20 tankers full of refined petroleum in Europe for shipment to the USA. Current US gas prices make it economical to do so, and it gets round refining not being available locally. It should also plug some of the current capacity gap for a short while.

Lowest I found in Dallas last night or today was $2.95 at the Exxon on the corner of Cedar Springs and Mockingbird. Next lowest is $3.09/gallon. If work would just install some showers, I'd be cycling in every day  Smile

Nashville -

Yesterday I had to drive to 5 different stations to find one that actually HAD gas at all! There is a shortage here in middle TN and some stations are starting to gouge. Finding regular unleaded is almost impossible....

On the way to work this monring, most were charging $3.29 for regular that they didn't have, so technically I guess the price is $3.39 since you have to get at the mid-grade.

I'm going to be lazy:
Atlanta Gas Prices

I had to go to three different stations earlier today to put gas in my work truck. First station I went to was out of Regular and Mid-Grade, the second was out of Regular, and the third still had Regular @ $3.29/gallon. I passed several stations today that were completely out of all grades of gas, a few were out of Regular, and one of my accounts I went to today was completely out as well.

In Glenolden, PA (near Philly) the nearby Lusik station has regular at $3.199; the price was $2.899 a day or two earlier and $2.699 over a week ago.

3 miles away, closer to I-95 in Prospect Park, PA at the intersection of US 13 and Route 420; the 3 stations there were priced at $3.299 (Texaco), $3.399 (BP), & $3.499 (Exxon) for regular respectively as of this morning. The highest premium price I've seen is $3.899 was at the above-mentioned Exxon.

The Hess station along Admiral Wilson Blvd. (US 30) in Camden, NJ had regular priced at $3.099 as of this morning. I will be stopping there later this afternoon to tank up for my Labor Day drive to Massachusetts; not looking forward to it since I last gassed up my car well over a week ago. If it weren't for a family situation, I would've cancelled my trip due to the continuing jump in prices.

It's mostly $2.99 here in the North Carolina Triad; however, I have seen it as high as $3.39 some places.

It'll be interesting when I head out to Los Angeles tomorrow. Last year, when I went at this time, they were at about $2.80; over $3 for premium. It'll be interesting to see how much it is tomorrow...

Wow.. I thought our prices were high. Some of you guys are paying up the ass with those prices. Here in Eureka, CA, prices are around $3.25 for regular, and about $3.50 for Premium. I'm sick of people going "well, gas is still cheaper per gallon than milk or bottled water", but then again, you don't run your car/truck/SUV on milk or bottled water.

$1.149 per litre here.

All petrol stations sell at the same price but each company offers various discounts. I get $0.05 discount but I buy premium so that means I am paying $1.199 per litre. Of course since I get Aeroplan (frequent flyer) points for the amount of petrol plus the charge to my credit card give me points with Aeroplan does this mean I get a free flight quicker?  Smile

The gallon is going up... and up... and up... Average in Guatemala City:

Q24.29 regular = $3.24
Q24.79 premium = $3.31
Q18.79 diesel = $2.51

back in the year 2000 when I bought my 2000 Honda Accord SE , it cost me about $ 25.00 to fill up my gas tank. And now I have to spend $ 43.00 to fill up my gas tank. Can you see the difference? from $ 25 all the way up to $ 43.00....

it's almost 20 bucks difference just in 5 years span.

Oh yeah, back in 1997, I still vividly remember the price of a gallon of regular being 78 cents at a QuikTrip in Atlanta. I don't know why that stuck in my head, especially because I was only 14 at the time and couldn't drive. That would've been great. I could fill up my car with premium back then for less than $20--unbelieveable.

Yes, when I went out at lunch today, I saw wildly divergent prices heading in the other direction. And remember, in Oregon these prices are for "mini-serve", since it's illegal to pump one's own gas in the state.

In Portland, Oregon, I live on the boarder in Multnomah County but Washington County is about 3 feet away. Gas in Wasington County is about $.10 cheaper than in Multnomah County. I gave up on tracking gas prices. They are going up and will not come down.

I also wanted to comment to Europeans and Canadians: I have not seen it in this thread, yet, but someone always says "We pay horrible amounts for gas compared to the United States." But, think of it this way: In Europe, there are alternate means of transportation. Here in the U.S. we don't have the infrasructure (busses, trains) and people choose to live so far from where they work that autos are really the only way to get around. There are even some communities where the nearest supermarket is 60 miles away.

Yeh, where I live, it's called walking.

Europe isn't a country, it's lots of countries, and the degree of public transport varies wildly too. In the US your cities have good public transport as do most European cities. It's not a European thing or an American thing because it's exactly the same. Just because Europe is smaller doesn't mean every road is on a bus route. My home is 10 minutes from work by car, and there is no bus service going my way, so that's a really simple choice.
