Tonights World Cup Qualifying Matches

Wed Sep 07, 2005 5:22 pm

Well, a few matches still to go before the qualifying rounds are through.

Personally I'm going to see Norway vs Scotland later this evening. Should be a thrilling match after a close 1-0 win for Norway in the first leg in Scotland.

Any other predictions for the games tonight?

You know what Kirkie. I wouldn't be shocked if this happened. Both Norway and Scotland has an unstable national team. So I think they will win this time.

I'd love to see Scotland win tonight and get back in with a chance of qualifying.

I would love to be able to agree with you kirkie, but I can't see it happening!

Our beleaguered national side are an embarrassment to the tartan army at the moment, and our esteemed national coach should consider himself very lucky to still have a job. In all honesty I would welcome Berti Vogts back with open arms.

The fact is we don't put enough resources into developing our younger players, and at the moment our regular team consists of aging has-beens, unfit lard-arses and second rate wannabe's.

I live in hope that one day I'll be proud to be a member of the tartan army, but it'll be a long time coming at this rate.

Gordon.

Gordo, wtf? We've improved dramatically under Walter and a 1-1 draw is very credible indeed. In favt we are unbeaten for 4 or 5 games now  Wink

However, we should have beaten Brazil though, a tremendous performance by the lads.

Um. Bit of rose tinted spectacles there, Kirkie. It was a tremendous performance from Scotland, and they were desperately unlucky to lose, but it was a tremendous defensive performance from Scotland. At no point did they ever look like they were going to win.

But for the current side, the future looks a bit rosier. They're playing well at the moment. Good to see.

Kirkie, like everyone else you've just gotten used to the fact that Scotland are shite!  Silly

It's got to the stage where beating Norway 1-0 will be considered a fantastic result, but I can still remember when we were one of the best teams in Europe, when we actually used to qualify for major cups and tournaments. Nowadays our busy match schedule is filled with friendlies against teams like Austria, in the meager hope that we might actually come away with a win.

No my friend, not even a 'blinding' performance by Walter can rectify the reputation our team has gotten in recent years. (although I admit the team has gotten more consistent under his charge, though I doubt if we're actually all that much better at the grass roots level)

Regards,
Gordon.

I cant believe Greece pulled that win out of Kazakhstan in the 90th.

If anyones watching Czech. Rep vs. Armenia, Armenia almost made it 1-0, the Czech form is horrible over these last matches.

Switzerland has an away game in Cyprus, while France is playing against Ireland in Dublin tonight. Should be an easy game for us, but we didn't look all that good when we played Cyprus last time at home in Zurich. Switzerland HAS to win to keep their chances of qualifying directly high.

But it will be nice to go into that last England v Poland game without the customary (i.e every damn World Cup qualifying campaign because we always bloody well draw each other) heartstopping moments, won't it? We can just reminisce about why it is that FIFA and UEFA are so determined that we'll be drawn with each other and how on earth England failed to win in 1973.  Wink

Last time you won in the qualifyer 2-1 in Poland, because of an own goal damn it. Yes but seriously I always look forward to England being in our group. It is true that we meet in every damn WC and Euro qualifyer group! Lets just hope we take care of Wales today...oh that and dont slip up in N. Ireland  Silly

Im watching currently Czech Rep. vs. Armenia and gonna catch the first half of Italy vs. Belarus before I have to head over to Math class. The Czechs are really looking shitty in the first half.

Looking forward to a Turkish win over Ukraine, so I once again can have the pleasure of seeing Morten Olsen, Denmarks head coach, whine in the medias about how unfair it is that Ukraine and Turkey have made a deal etc.

Of course, this is the same Morten Olsen who became outraged during last years EC when, prior to the game between Denmark & Sweden, people asked if there had been any thoughts about talking to the Swedish coach about letting the game end in a tie, that would send both team through to the final round.

Nevermind the Czechs who are now up 4-0, and that last one by Jan Polak was a cannonball. Impressive 32 goals the Czechs have put in in these qualifyers.
