Not according to some of the blind 'Bush' supporters who think it will have no effect.

Nobody doubts it will have SOME effect.

However, some on here seem to think it will bring about the fall of modern civilization and plunge us into a deep depression. If someone else was president I doubt there would be quite so much doomsaying.

Well, of course not. Many of them are already profiting from the higher oil prices.  bigmouth   stirthepot

Simply put from an economic perspective, 15 billion dollars to rebuild could be better spent elsewhere (had nothing been destroyed) thus we can talk about this having a negative effect on the economy.

If so, that $15 billion should cover a few sheets of plywood and a couple gallons of diesel.

Honestly I think the couple gallons of diesel is already asking for too much  Smile
Lets go with a pallet of plywood and a quart of kerosine.

I just read there will be an increase in the US national output next year due to hurricane rebuilding work. That is in fact quite reasonable, only that you then need to depreciate the destroyed buildings and infrastructure faster that expected. An equivalent to peeing in your pants in winter.

I haven't found anyone yet who has said that Katrina will have no effect on the economy.
