Yet Another Bush Criticism Thread

Fri Sep 09, 2005 1:03 pm

Except I actually took some time to prepare this dialogue between me and an unnamed person who sits opposite the table.

Friend: I am going off the deep end because this (oil for food) makes me mad?
Me: no
Friend: The fact that Clinton let this happen pisses me off
Friend: I thought he was a better man than that
Me: but Bush has no say because he's spending six billion a month in the same place
Friend: I didn't say I don't think going to war was bad idea
Me: so you ignore one and broadly point out the other?
Friend: nope
Friend: because I belive good will come out of the war now
Me: why is that?
Friend: we will have millitary bases there
Friend: we will get oil from them
Friend: we will give them a better place to live
Friend: we will add democracy to the world
Me: so your saying that this war was about oil?
Friend: nope
Friend: I honestly think it started because he thought they had WMD
Me: wait a second here
Friend: but when he found out they didn;t
Friend: he should have just said "I was wrong:
Me: how can you say that when the UN inspectors found no evidence of weapons?
Friend: WHy could bush trust the UN, who was making money off of Saddam, when he had his own guys saying the opposite thing?
Me: well, why don't you ask him, he's the one who called for the inspectors to go back to Iraq?
Me: Here is what I think
Me: In the beginning, the war was about finding WMD's, according to Bush. Then, the war was about ousting saddam, again, according to Bush.
Me: Always when asked about the sudden change in motive for invasion (after the fact), he never fully answers the question
Me: he dodges it, and never answers to the american people the way they should be answered too: as adults.
Me: I personally dont want someone spending my tax dollars until they can damn well for sure tell me exactly what they're spending them on and for what purpose.
Friend: I agree 100%
Me: The Social Security fiasco some months back,
Me: not even his policy which by the way is the wrong way to do it, I'll get into it if you want me to later but first
Me: he has a style of holding "town hall meetings" whereby he screens the attendees to make sure they won't question him too hard
Friend: lol
Friend: i know it
Friend: but so did Kerry
Me: questions like "you plan on a 100% privatization of social security in less than ten years, yet the current system of social security is one of immediate payout, that is once the money comes in, it gets sent back out to recipients. My question is, if you plan on privatizing social security so fast, what about the people who have just come on to social security and would thus not be putting any money into an account? How would they get money? You keep saying that they will be guaranteed money, where would it come from? FICA wellfare or will a special account have to be created which would mean additional taxation?
Me: see nobody in any of those rooms asked that question because the people who would have weren't allowed in
Me: oh and for the record, Kerry was a douche, just a better one than Bush
Me:  Wink

I would absolutely love to speak with people on here face to face. I believe that personal contact is essential in a good debate...too many body language aspects thrown out online and elsewhere.

I liked it because it was constructive criticism rather than just "bush sucks, you're a douchebag" and likewise.

constructive criticism

Ahh, yes...something that seems to elude most people on here. While I don't agree with parts, I do commend you for taking the time to write something other than the infamous 'Bush sucks.'  Big grin

Sad then that compared to the other Bush bashing threads on here, this one has had very few contributions ...
