found hotels for 40 Euros per night.... what are the costs for beer, cocktails etc... ?
Depends on where you go and what you want to do, but if you're only going or a handful of nights (two or three) you might consider going with an all-inclusive resort. Most of the good places in CUN
are all-inclusive, or at least offer it as an option. Expect to spend an additional $50.00USD to $80.00USD per day for that, but it's not a bad deal when it includes all your meals, snacks and unlimited alcohol.
When poolside bars charge around $4.00USD for a beer, the all-inclusive is totally worth it, especially if you like to drink while on holiday.
Many of the local nightclubs offer all-inclusive deals as well; I was there in July and paid around $20.00USD to $30.00USD per person for cover charges into the all-inclusive places. Of course the servers expect to be given a tip for service, but when you drop a ten peso coin (about $1.00USD) into the tip jar it gets you a long way.
We figured our "breakeven drink factor" for all-inclusive at the clubs was 4 to 5 drinks a night, and for the all-inclusive at the hotel was around 6 drinks once you factored in the meals as well.
But anyway, if you do it all piecemeal, expect to pay around $10-12.00USD for breakfast, around the same for lunch, and maybe $20.00USD for dinner. Of course you can eat at local dives and save cash - the prices I've talked about are the touristy places.
Local stores? You can get good Mexican beer (Sol, Corona, etc) for about $1.00USD per beer, or twice that for a large 40 oz beer. Double that cost up for buying them at the bars.
