Are Troubles Back In Northern Ireland?

Tue Sep 13, 2005 3:53 pm

As you may have (or not) noticed, rioting is at its third consecutive night in Belfast.

What is going on ?

The Parades Commission ruled that a Protestant parade would not be allowed to follow its traditional route down the Whiterock Road in Belfast (a Catholic area of the city). The various Protestant paramilitary organisations have obviously taken this opportunity to stir up unrest in the Protestant ghettos of Belfast and other towns. The ironic thing is that the rioters are trashing their own areas... go figure! This has happened before and will probably blow over in due course.
