no, not the only one.. but drinking 51 is also not the best thing you could do.. hehehe... ok, I know it's probably not very easy to find a good cachaça outside Brazil...

I'd recommend the cachaças from Salinas (Canarinha, for ex), in Minas Gerais, or from Paraíba, a state in brazil's N-E (Rainha Paraibana, for instance, is quite a good choice  Smile). Espírito Santo (where VIX is located) also has some excelent cachaças.

If you're just using it to prepare some caipirinhas, 51 is not bad.. a top cachaça wouldn't make that much of a difference... but if you're drinking it straight, it's an etirely different story..

If you´r in Brasil, there´s plenty of shops to get a nice cachaça.
51 is good for caipirinhas,

Most countries have a local beverage they think is wonderful - but is not.

Here in the USA it is white lightin' corn whiskey. Cachaca serves that purpose in Brazil, as Pisco does for Peru. Horrible stuff unless you are man enough to drink it. (Or a local.)

But I'll have a Brahma Chopp beer if you have one.
Happiness is not seeing another trite Ste. Maarten photo all week long.

I agree with you on that. And I am not a huge cahcaça fan (if you stick to 51 or velho barreiro you really won't find anything good anyways)... But there are some very good cachaças.. I'm not comparing them to an 18-year-old whiskey, but there is a great range of "flavours" and combinations.

Brahma Chopp beer

Minor technicality here.. Big grin
A chopp is not the same as a beer, and is not the same as draught also, since it does not go through pasteurization. As a consequence, chopp barrels expire much more rapidly (1 to 2 weeks). The advantage is a much lighter and refreshing "beer".  Smile  Silly  drunk   knockout
