Problems With My Laptop Clock?

I am having some troubles with my HP Pavillion ze4900....the clock isn't working, it is not moving, like this morning when I turned it on it was showing yesterdays dat, and it doesn't move or moves slowly when I have it on...anyone know whats the deal?

check your battery, the cmos one (or the one on the motherboard), if that is dead the machine shows the time when u last shut it down...

Sounds like something other than just a bad CMOS battery to me. Might be some malware or a hardware failure.

We'll thats what I thought as well but it turns out sometimes the clock doesnt move at all when I am using......this isn't even an old computer I got it last christmas

everytime you turn it on, does it show the correct time to start with? you might have a virus

No...for example I turned it on this mroning around 10AM and it showed 12:43PM Thursday (yesterday)....I changed the date back to Friday and the correct time.....it's been on since then and it is now marking 12:39PM Friday...when it should be 4:55PM Friday

A dead CMOS battery won't cause this effect. If you can, send it in for service.

Yeah I don't really want to waste my money on it.......I might be able to check with my dad on the warranty...if not I think I can live without my laptop watch.....

I could very well be the battery inside the motherboard. When the charge goes low, your clock is not going to be able to keep updated. That might be the effect of you completely losing your charge.

With power off & Unplugged.Access the Motherboard,Flip the battery out & replace with same type.

The CMOS battery keeps time while the computer is turned off. It is not required for when the computer is plugged in and turned on. If the CMOS battery dies, you will have to reset the clock every time you start the computer, but during operation the clock should function normally until you turn the computer off again.
