Top Gun/Bar Scene/Anthony Edwards

Sat Sep 24, 2005 9:00 am

In the movie "Top Gun," there was a bar scene with Goose, being played by Anthony Edwards at the piano, playing and signing. Is that Anthony Edwards actually playing the piano or was he "acting?"

BTW, it's hard to believe it's been nearly 20 years since that movie came out.

Yes, he was faking, and it becomes quite obvious for someone who knows piano.

If you watch his hands in relation to where they are on the piano and whether the music get higher or lower, it is evident he was not really playing it.

Dudley Moore just wouldn't have worked for the part.

Anthony Edwards was faking at the piano in "Top Gun", but in "ER" all the intibations, chest tubes, and other medical procedures were for real.

He is a very talented actor.

As far as I can remember, there was some talk about Jerry Lee Lewis's involvement in the scene. He wanted to perform the song to make sure it was done correctly, so Anthony Edwards really had nothing to do with the actual sound production.
Up, up and away!

Oh gawd that long ago???? and tragically I saw it 14 times at the cinema. Took me til the 11th time to convince the usher Tom Cruise had nothing to do with me being there.......again! Any film with that much F-14 footage has to be good (Tom Cruise nothwithstanding)

And yes Anthony Edwards is a damn fine actor

It is never said, but it is seen.

You can't make it through life without these pieces of trivia:

"The piano scene and the final bar/jukebox scene were shot in a San Diego restaurant called Kansas City BBQ, at the corner of Kettner Blvd and W. Harbor Drive. The restaurant now houses many props and memorabilia from the film, including the jukebox and Maverick's flight helmet sits behind the bar in a locked display case.

Stunt pilot Art Scholl died when his plane crashed on September 16, 1985 while he was performing the "flat spin" shown in the movie. "
