Mon Sep 26, 2005 1:39 pm

I haven't been able to get connected for the last few days so I decided to do some research on what was goin on we'll it turns out WinMx was forced to shut down for ever...here is the link to the article http://www.vnunet.com/vnunet/news/2142701/peer-peer-services-crumble

So what should I "NOT"  Wink use when downloading my music and newly released movies....kazaa(this one always seems to mess up my comp plus it works diff than WinMx) anyone know something similar to WinMx to use???

Try Ares or BitTorrent

Although the WinMX network is currently down, this may only be temporary as developers seem to have relocated from Canada to Port Villa, Vanuatu.

WinMX is a cesspool of computer virii (at least in my experience.) I've been using iMesh lately and it works perfectly.

I gave up using it as it was flooded with spam for porn paysites. Small jpeg or gif files with the address of a titty page, spammed using thousands of keywords for popular searches.
Lead me not into temptation, I can find my own way there...

That happens on any P2p Network. BearShare, my personal favorite, using the large Gnutella network is similar. Ignore WMV files and suspicious small (multiple of the sametime) JPG/GIF files

BearShare installs the Save! program but you can uninstall it and BearShare will work
What now?

I just called a friend, he recommended Soulseek:

http://www.slsknet.org/download.html

I just installed it and it is looking quite nice.

Patrick

Edit: I just downloaded a song, simply the perfect WinMX replacement!

I use Limewire, and I am nothing but pleased. Some quality porn on there as well, for those who are interested.  Wink

So, are eDonkey and eMule the same thing? I have eDonkey right now but nothing seems to start loading. Everything ends up in queue and I usualy end up being #3456 in line. Frustrating. I will give Soulseek a try.

Shareaza is fairly efficient, but viruses abound. You can often find some pretty obscure music on the site.

Your best bet would be BitComet.
