In a recent thread I posted, someone mentioned that I've been spending too much time on A.net, and asked if I had been fired from my job (thus the free time to post in non-av). My answer was no... everything's ok, work too slow lately, that's all.
Guess what happened now?
That's right... as of next week I'll be part of the unemployed club. My boss notified me yesterday to let me know that the assignments I have right now would be the last ones to complete, and then the contract will be over.
Actually, I saw it coming sooner or later. When I was hired as translator back in May, I was aware that it was on a temporary basis and the contract was bound to expire on August 1st. The company has been renewing the contract since then, but now the project has come to an end. Most of my coworkers are rather pi$$ed off, because they expected my boss to offer me the technical writer position (more or less what I've been doing); instead, he brought someone from outside. You'd think I would also be pi$$ed off about it, but I have another point of view...
The job was not what I had expected, I had to take work to my home on several occasions, the commute was too long, my boss was constantly getting into my nerves... The only thing that kept me here was the salary. I had too many debts to pay, and since I had been looking for a job for 5 months before coming here, I couldn't risk letting this opportunity go and wait another 5 months for a job. I'll surely miss the work atmosphere, most of my coworkers were truly great people. But all in all, I feel relieved.
No, this doesn't mean I will spend all my spare time in here, trying to compete for the "top poster of the month" prize. Civilization hasn't reached my home (read: I have no internet access at the moment), so I'll actually be posting much less. Don't worry though; the cable company is currently working to provide internet access and it should be ready in a few weeks. And there's always the internet café...
Anyway, now I'll take my time, search carefully, and find a job I really like... an airline job, of course!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Don't expect to see me around that much (if at all) -- the contact link should still work, though.
