Welcome To The Unemployed Club!

Sat Oct 01, 2005 5:56 am

In a recent thread I posted, someone mentioned that I've been spending too much time on A.net, and asked if I had been fired from my job (thus the free time to post in non-av). My answer was no... everything's ok, work too slow lately, that's all.

Guess what happened now?

That's right... as of next week I'll be part of the unemployed club. My boss notified me yesterday to let me know that the assignments I have right now would be the last ones to complete, and then the contract will be over.

Actually, I saw it coming sooner or later. When I was hired as translator back in May, I was aware that it was on a temporary basis and the contract was bound to expire on August 1st. The company has been renewing the contract since then, but now the project has come to an end. Most of my coworkers are rather pi$$ed off, because they expected my boss to offer me the technical writer position (more or less what I've been doing); instead, he brought someone from outside. You'd think I would also be pi$$ed off about it, but I have another point of view...

Good riddance.

The job was not what I had expected, I had to take work to my home on several occasions, the commute was too long, my boss was constantly getting into my nerves... The only thing that kept me here was the salary. I had too many debts to pay, and since I had been looking for a job for 5 months before coming here, I couldn't risk letting this opportunity go and wait another 5 months for a job. I'll surely miss the work atmosphere, most of my coworkers were truly great people. But all in all, I feel relieved.  Smile

No, this doesn't mean I will spend all my spare time in here, trying to compete for the "top poster of the month" prize. Civilization hasn't reached my home (read: I have no internet access at the moment), so I'll actually be posting much less. Don't worry though; the cable company is currently working to provide internet access and it should be ready in a few weeks. And there's always the internet café...

Anyway, now I'll take my time, search carefully, and find a job I really like... an airline job, of course!  airplane

Have a wonderful weekend!

I dont work at the moment. That is my choice. I dont claim any unemployment or sickness benefit so I have a clear conscience.

I quite enjoy not having to work. Work made me thouroughly miserable and I am lucky in that I have financial support from my family.

I will go back to work, should the right opportunity come along but Im in no hurry!

Good luck Carmenlu15! If your English is as good as it seems to be, you should consider to teach it! It'd be a cool option.

Take care.

Well, I can proudly say that after 4 hard months I am know out of the unemployment club! I got hired last week in a real-estate compnay that specifies on renting fully furnished appartments in Buenos Aires, mainly to foreigners. At last I can start paying my debts  Smile
I was depressed for the last few months, but now I see things differently, so I am sure there is a job out there for everyone (or at least, for all a.netters  Wink )

Thanks for your good wishes. I'm still at work leaving everything ready, and couldn't miss the chance to stop by a.net Big grin

Putting it nicely: God created me with many virtues. Patience is not among them. Or to quote myself in another thread: "Schoolteacher? Why, I'd strangle one of those little brats before the first day of school is over!"  Wink

Actually I'm considering it... maybe getting a half-time job in the morning, and tutoring in the afternoon (I know there is demand in my neighborhood).

Hey;

If you come to Montreal, you can teach both English AND Spanish to the french folks - big money!

You might get cold, though...

I've heard Canadian visa is even harder to get than U.S. visa (which I don't have, either). Sounds interesting though  scratchchin

As long as you have enough to pay the bills, being unemployed for a bit is great for the mind. It allows you to clear the head and relax

Unemployments of Burkinians in last economic report was 54%. No good time to find job in Burkina so it's mostly easier in Guatemala to find work.
