Alright; here's the story. Last night I came home around 2 o'clock driving my dad's car. I noticed a styrofoam cup in the gutter, which I found peculiar because litter usually isn't an issue in our neighborhood.
So I head inside and go to sleep. I go out to my car this afternoon to get something from the trunk, and I see the cup still laying there as well as coke covering the rear of my car: rear window, bumper, trunk, it's everywhere. I didn't see this till late in the day, after it'd pretty much baked in. So I go out to eat dinner at around 7ish, and pull through a gas station carwash on the way home. After the water dried, the paint on my trunk felt kind of coarse and powdery, no doubt a result of having coke sit on it all night and all day.
As I pull onto my street, I wasn't really in the mood to go home, so I decided to take a drive to the end of the road just for the heck of it. I got to the end, which is sort of a parking lot behind a bunch of townhouses, to see about 3 or 4 cars all parked haphazardly around a familiar white Land Rover, with a police cruiser there too and about 4 or 5 grown men standing, talking to the police.
I turned around and left, and went home. As I got out of my car, someone from down the street was standing in the driveway talking to my neighbor. There was a very strange, tense feeling in the air and she asked me if I was alright. I said yes, and asked if any of them had a problem with being vandalised.
As soon as I said that the two middle-aged women burst into a flurry of conversation, giving me details and times and everything. It turns out the same thing had happened to them. These people have like 5 cars, and they park two of them down the street. She told me one of them had ketchup all over the windshield, and the other one had a burst sonic cup with coke all over the hood of the car, but that it had happened tonight (as opposed to last night, when the incident occurred to my car). My neighbor (her husband) followed that familiar rover when he saw it coming down the road with it's lights off. I don't know how he got them cornered like he did, but he had them blocked in pretty well.
Two of the kids ran away, but I recognized the Rover to belong to a sophmore at my high shcool. He was sitting in the back of the sheriff's car. The whole reason i'm writing this post is to try and see what I can do about the screwed up paint on my car. It was pretty glossy before, and still is everywhere else, but now it's really dull on the trunk and around the brakelights. The country club manager who helped my neighbor corner the kid suggested I call the sheriff's department, and told me not to hesitate. Second opinoins?
Sorry for the length, but I'm pissed. Getting your car repainted isn't cheap, and my dad doesn't seem to care too much. What would you do?
