Solar Eclipse: My Lucky Break!

Tue Oct 04, 2005 1:16 am

10:51 in the morning. Camera ready and I'm all set. Then this massive cloud formation moves in, blocking the sun!

11:00 The moon is now right in the middle of the sun, according to the time-table from yesterdays' newspaper, but I can't see a thing because of these bloody clouds!"  hissyfit

11:01 While I am just about to put the lens-cap back on the camera, I feel the heat of the sun on my skin. I look up and see a relatively small opening appear in the clouds.

I aim my camera and through the viewfinder I spot a beautiful little ring of light.

I only have time to make just 2 pics before the sun disappears again behind the clouds.

Guess I have been incredibly lucky. Not only did the clouds open slightly right in time, those same clouds also acted as a filter as I don't think I would have been able to focuss correctly directly into the sun.

I was supposed to be in Tunisia for the weekend for this eclipse but the Air France flight out of Atlanta was full. My coworkers made it on the next day's flight and probably saw the eclipse from Tatouine, Tunisia. But I'm not bitter  Yeah sure.

Here in Madrid we had a perfect weather to see the eclipse, and it was an amazing experience...A shame that I didn't had my camera with me!  cry

Being in Ireland I did not even bother stepping outside as the sun is unvisible on a normal day, let alone during an eclipse.
