Boy George Arrested, Again

Singer Boy George Arrested on Drug Charge 9 minutes ago

NEW YORK - Boy George was arrested on suspicion of possessing drugs and making a fake police report after calling 911 early Friday, police said.

The British singer, whose real name is George O'Dowd, claimed his home had been burglarized around 3 a.m. Friday, said Detective Kevin Czartoryski, a police spokesman.

Officers arrived at O'Dowd's Manhattan apartment and discovered a small amount of cocaine next to a computer, police said. Police were continuing to investigate.

That photo is him in "costume" when he did a portrayal of Lee Bowery (sp?).

Lee Bowery was George O'Dowd's persona inspiration. Bowery was heavy on the underworld scene of British music, fashion, drugs, nightclub, clubs, entertainment in the early 80's. Despite having many enemies, most of his enemies were his friends. Bowery had a huge following.

O'Dowd portrayed Lee Bowery and gave great tribute to his life and influence in the musical "Taboo."

Probably yes, all to promote Taboo.

Taboo opened in New York in the fall of 2003, but before that, had been playing in London for several years and still is playing over there, I believe.

Despite it's ill-timing on Broadway (definitely wrong time given that year's fierce competition), O'Dowd still remains attached to plans to revamp the show off Broadway and/or give it some life in regional theater markets (Chicago, L.A., San Francisco), across the country. It's found success playing throughout Europe.

It was an interesting show. It shouldn't have played Broadway, probably not the type of venue for it. Most of the terrible reviews came from people that A) clearly didn't understand the show, B) hate jukebox musicals (most of the score was Boy George tunes), C) had a hatred for rock operas, and D) were mad that Rosie O'Donnell was producing it.

The costume/make up demands for the role of Lee Bowery take up so much time that Boy George just simply started living in the get up rather than having to endure about 5 or 6 hours of make up each day.

Seems bizarre, he called the cops to report a break in, (that the cops think is false, not a mistake, but 'false')
All the while he has shitloads of ching all over his pad, reportably in plain view in at least the case of one sample of narcotics?

He's lived long enough in the US to know possession convictions are generally much tougher than in the UK, you can bet that they'll try and nail him for supplying if they think they have half a chance of success too.

He could potentially get 15 years, think he'll take to Rikers Island?

Never liked the guy, always thought his music utterley excerable, but he provides occasional entertainment by being bitchy to fellow celebs.
Such as when he asked why, with all his money, Elton John still had hair like a dinnerlady?

My whole point was that you said he was arrested again, when in fact you obviously didn't know whether or not he had been previously arrested.

What's funny is when you google "Boy george arrest record"
The first URL is: www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/bushdui1.html

The next closest thing was from the LIBERAL CNN so I don't know if you'll trust it: http://edition.cnn.com/2005/SHOWBIZ/Music/10/07/boygeorge.arrest.reut/
"In 1995, Boy George recounted his drug-induced fall from grace in his autobiography "Take It Like A Man," writing about his convictions and relapses and about how he had finally kicked his habit."

The Smoking gun doesn't have anything on these previous arrests/convictions

I just added that because it refers to a previous criminal history.
"It is not the first time Boy George has had problems with drugs. In 1986, the singer was convicted for heroin possession in England."

I do remember when I was young, he was arrested, and it being covered on News at Ten.

Can't believe someone who went as low as George did, then fought his way back from a serious heroin problem that almost killed him, would start doing charlie.

You would think he would have learned that lesson the hard way.

Although Freddie Mercury was gay, the three other members of Queen - Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon - were not.

Brian May was married to an actress who starred on Coronation Street, don't remeber who she was. John Deacon was the lowest key member of the group, but he wrote the bass line for Queen's biggest hit for an original release. Not surprisingly, he's not taking part in the attempted revival of Queen this past summer. I'm glad I got to see the original members live.

One has to question that with the tighter standards for people whom are citizens of EC and other 'visa waiver countries' to enter the USA, how a person with several convictions for drugs can be allowed into the USA. Boy George/O'Dowd probably wouldn't be allowed in many countries like Canada and Australia which have very serious standards as to drug users and convictions and access to their countries. Boy George could face significant jail time, in a NY State Jail (think Ossining, 'up the river') or even federal charges for possession of the quanity of cocaine he had in his apartment. This guys 15 minutes passed by 20 years ago. Time for him to go back the the UK, grow up and get a real job and stay away from drugs.

Just read this

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/4334236.stm

Looks like he might not be able to dodge this one of it's correct. Obviously I'm not aware of US drug laws, but over here above a certain amount and it becomes "possession with intent to supply" which is much more serious and carries a hefty jail term.

ROTFL!!!!!!
They say one-eighth of an ounce or 3.5G in total !
This is nothing !!! I've been to parties where the average guy had more than 1 G in each nostril !!

Will authorities do something useful for once? Like fighting crack, instead or busting recreational users ? Why not legalizing them in the end ? In fact alcohol and cigarette are legal, largely taxed, and kills a lot more than recreational drugs...

Really it's common sense! Legal means no more bad products, an ecstasy will be a real ecstasy, huge tax income, etc...

My 2 cents
