I imagine you want to remove the spyware responsable for the winfixer pop-ups, not the program Winfixer itself.

I recommend using HijackThis. See Help Please: My Home PC Has Been Hijacked (by BCAL Oct 19 2005 in Non Aviation) for more info.

Yes I want to remove the spyware responsable for the winfixer pop-ups. I don't have (and don't want the Winfixer program itself)

Is HijackThis easy to use? I am not the most computer literate person.

I agree, HijackThis is the way to go. I was able to use it to successfully remove Winfixer popups a few months ago, no problems since then.

The program itself is fairly straightfoward, however it won't come right out and say where the "winfixer" problem is. Instead it gives a "log" which can show potential problems. If you are unsure of your computer skills I would reccomend bringing it to someone who knows a lot about working HijackThis (that's what I did), or run the program to get a log and then post the log on an expert's forum and somebody may be able to tell you which entries are causing you problems.

This website has some good info on HijackThis

Thanks. I will have to bring it to my dads friend. I am not the best when it comes to this sort of stuff.

Dragon:

If you read my post in the thread linked above, you'll see a link to a website which analyzes your HijackThis log online. If you still aren't very sure after using this analyzer, visit http://forums.tomcoyote.org/index.ph...080779fa542e0cf9e1063&showforum=27 , start a new thread and paste your HijackThis logfile so other experienced members of that board can advice you on what to do.

I thought HijackThis was terribly complicated the first time I used it but it is really all pretty straightforward. I prefer it over any other spyware- & adware removal programs. And in the event I really do not know whether it is safe to delete an entry or not, I use the online analyzer I mentioned. And if that still doesn't give me more certainty, I can always use one of the many forums dedicated to HijackThis logs. And that is something most other programs don't have.
