"We Know You Have A Choice..."

I was going to put this in civil-av, but thought better of it... since the source is completely unreliable (but very funny anway).

A friend heard it from a friend (get the picture?) that on a recent UA flight, upon landing, the FA concluded her "welcome to" announcement with:

We know you have a choice when it comes to bankrupt airlines, and we appreciate you chosing ours.

Like I said, dubious source, but funny none the less.
It's been swell, but the swelling has gone down.

I honestly don't know who's really to blame for the mess the airlines are in.

Is it the management for running outdated business models and buying too many planes?

Is it the employees fault for demanding job security, pensions, and so on?

Is it the publics fault for demanding Nordstroms service at wal Mart Prices?

Or is it all of the above?

Actually, I think the success of Southwest, jetBlue, Frontier, Alaska and others has shown that what passengers want is Macy's service at Macy's prices with the occaissional good sale.

All three are factors, but methinks primarily the first one.

Yes, unions can and do get overzealous, customers increasingly want more for less, but while you hear of service being cut and employees laid off when an airlines funds take a turn for the worse, you never hear of executive bonuses being cut - crappy and selfish management is the biggest problem (and I know that this problem isn't restricted to the airline industry - it's everywhere).
