What Am I Missing Here?

"But a year and a half ago, Britain and Carvin split. Britain married the sperm donor and subsequently barred Carvin from seeing L.B."

Ok, someone tell me what I am missing here. Two lesbians are dating, decide to have a kid, one gets artificially screwed, they have a kid, one lesbian raises the kid for 6 years, they break up, and the biological mother marries the sperm donor? WTF? I'm not questioning the article, its completely understandable. I am questioning that if you are a lesbian, why would you marry a guy? Is it just because this guy is the father of your child? Its not like you've even had sex or anything, so you can't say he turned you straight or the sex did it. And you stayed with your lesbian partner for 6 years before deciding to go to the guy, so if you did turn straight, whats the deal with waiting 6 years to do it?

This sounds like a Jerry Springer show in the making.

So someone tell me, what am I missing with this?

It just goes to show that there is a decision-making process involved with sexuality.

Ms. Britain has decided to become at least bisexual if not heterosexual - and that should be "okay" just like others believe it's "okay" for a heterosexual to become bisexual or homosexual.

It shows no such thing - all it shows is that one person was or perhaps still is confused about her sexuality. One occurance doesn't prove anything, and sure has hell doesn't prove it's a choice. There are plenty of cases where a homosexual chooses to emmulate the life of a straight person, and for all we know this could be the same thing in reverse.

What is correct is that she can live her life in whatever fashion she chooses.

Thus you also cannot say she is "confused."

In what world? Decisions are made all the time without a full understanding of the whys and the hows. I'll grant you one point, I should have said that perhaps she is confused. Fact is, I don't know this woman, don't know her reasoning and don't know anything about the situation other than what I read in the papers. I'm not going to try and use her and her situation to justify my own own beliefs on sexuality, But I will call  redflag  on anybody who does try.

Then I'll call a  redflag  on anyone who tries to tell me that people engage in sexual relationships without "choosing" to do so. You choose how you're going to act, who you're going to have sex with, and how to express your sexuality... regardless of what you feel is correct.

Unless, of course, you're saying she's just any other animal acting on unconscious instinct alone...  sarcastic

I guess the situation would be easier to work out if we had more details. I guess I am more interested what was her reasoning for marrying her sperm donor? Some women want to get married when they feel "trapped" by pregnancy, but this can't be the case here. She was with another woman the whole time, but 6 years later decides to marry the sperm donor? Under what circumstances? I'm sure I'm just being nosey here, but were these 2 having relations during that time? I would think no, she was originally artificially inseminated. And what contact did they have with the sperm donor? I would think there would be some kind of unwritten code that a sperm donor for a lesbian couple would not have any kind of parental rights to the child or anythig like that. And maybe she is confused about her sexuality. Thats all fine, but thats when I have to put my foot down and tell this woman, "Lady, if you are not mature enough or responsible enough to come to terms with sexuality by this time, you certainly shouldn't be bringing a child into this world then." No wonder the other partner took most care of the kid. Until she is responsible enough to come to terms with that, she shouldn't be caring for anything more complex than a worm farm, invertebrates that live in their own world and need only water and fresh dirt sprayed on them to stay alive. Or better yet, a Chia pet is a more likely candidate for her to care for. If that is the case, she should not be bringing a child into this world, for there is no better way to screw up a childs head than not knowing if Mommy likes men or women, but that last part is just my opinion.

And I'll be right there with you, with whom and when you have sex is always a choice. But in this case you claimed that sexuality was a choice, not just the act of sex. There is a huge difference.
