Fugitive former Peruvian President Alberto Fujimori was arrested in Chile on Monday after arriving unexpectedly in the country the previous day, according to Chilean media.
Fujimori was arrested at his hotel in Santiago, where he surrendered without trouble, and was detained in the capital.
He is wanted by Peru over his actions in office from 1990 to 2000, but those warrants are not internationally valid, according to an Interpol notification to Chilean authorities.
Peruvian ambassador to Chile Jose Antonio Meier gave notice that Lima would be seeking Fujimori's arrest and extradition, and Peru's Interior Minister Romulo Pizarro was expected to travel to Santiago on Monday to begin extradition procedures, according to reports in Lima.
The most incredible is he wants to run for Peuvian president in 2006
