Slain Palestinian Boy's Organs Donated To Israelis

Tue Nov 08, 2005 12:11 pm

NABLUS, West Bank (AP) -- The father of a Palestinian boy shot dead by Israeli soldiers said Monday he believes his son's spirit is alive in "every Israeli" after donating the boy's organs to Israelis waiting for transplants.

Ismail Khatib said he was extremely proud of his decision, even if some corners of Palestinian society might be upset with him.

"No one can tell me what to do," he said. "I feel very good that my son's organs are helping six Israelis. ... I feel that my son has entered the heart of every Israeli."

Khatib's son Ahmed, 12, was shot Thursday while Israeli troops conducted a raid in Jenin. The soldiers said the boy was carrying a toy rifle and they mistook him for a militant.

Ahmed died of his wounds late Saturday at an Israeli hospital. On Sunday, his kidneys, liver, lungs and heart were transplanted into recipients ranging in age from a 7-month-old baby to a 58-year-old woman and including Jews, Arabs and a Druse girl.

I have to admit I was crying after watching the video of this on the CNN website. There is too much heartache in this world, and too much senseless killing. Thankfully there is still some humanity left, but you have to wonder how much longer the world can progress down the road it is going without all hell breaking loose, as if it already hasn't.

Great gesture!

I hope that someday soon will stop the hate in the Middle East. This is a great example that people want peace not war.

Same apply to Irak.

I do love to read stories like this, and be reminded that there are many people on all sides of conflicts that can rise above--even in the most horrible possible circumstances, like having just lost one's child.

There are not enough people like this in the world, but there ARE many; and sadly, they usually don't make the news because the news focuses on the extremists. So it is nice not only to hear of this, but to see it getting coverage in the media.

Very inspiring! I'm glad there are some Palestinians in this world committed in helping preserve the Jewish race.

I saw the story on TV yesterday. Very nice that some people are capable to break out of this vicious cycle of violence and revenge. The story gives hope.

You did't really get what it was all about, did you? It's just about humanity, you throw in words like 'race.'

Jmc, "some" Palestinians? What do you think Palestinians are? A bunch of terrorists or what?
These people want to live in peace too. It's not only Arabic people who want to eleminate Israel, also Israelian politicians (even more right wing than Sharon) want to eleminate the Palestinians and their "country".

Besides, he didn't read the article. It says: "On Sunday, his kidneys, liver, lungs and heart were transplanted into recipients ranging in age from a 7-month-old baby to a 58-year-old woman and including Jews, Arabs and a Druse girl."

Nonetheless, it is still good to see Jews benefit from the situation.
