Help! Computer Question (joysticks)

Sat Nov 12, 2005 11:34 pm

Just another question for the computer geeks out there. I recently brought back my joystick from home which I absolutely love. The problem is that I bought it in 1998 so it has a standard gameport plug instead of a USB plug.

My "new" computer has loads of USB sockets but no standard gameport socket. I am guessing this is because I removed the option for a soundcard when customising the system. So now to the question...

Is there an adapter plug that exists which makes my standard gameport plug a USB plug or is the only solution to buy a soundcard that has one (or a different joystick of course)?

Cheers,
Moe  Smile

Although I can answer your question, I'm far from beeing a computer geek: definetely yes. My older joystick (wingman extreme) is euqipped with such an adapter in order to make it possible to use it with USB or gameport plug.

Damn that guy in the computer shop. I KNEW he was trying bullshit me just cus he didn't have it. He was trying to make me buy a new soundcard  mad

Have you got any idea where I can buy one of those adapters? There aren't many shops here in Luxembourg for these kinds of things, and I don't want to drive to Germany for nothing, and then find out it's not available at MediaMarkt. They have a shitty website, so I can't check online first. Yours just came with the joystick? That's cool. I wish I had one too  Sad

Man get yourself a new Joystick.
It's a shame that Microsoft isn't building them anymore. I got one of the last
Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback II (with extra power plug USB power is not enough cause 4 motors in it Big grin). Awesome device and kick ass compatible cause microsoft.

Forget these rubbish Joystick especially one without USB.
There is one problem with airbus. Though their products are engineering marvels they lack passion, completely.

Agreed. My old Sidewinder has been my favorite joystick so far, even over the X52.

I also agree that you should buy a new joystick. When you think about it your joystick is 7 years old now. I'd recommend a Saitek X46 (?) or the nicer X52, which comes with a separate throttle quadrant.
Holy sh*ts and burritos.

I've got exactly what you have with a gameport plug, and I will never trade it in for anything else because I have tried several and most of them have sucked compared to this one. Hence why I wanna make this one work!

Yep, I guess because gameport was already outdated 2 years ago when I bought my (old) joystick, but they didn't want to change their product.

BTW I have just googled and found this:
