Nicest Place You Have Ever Been In Your Opinion?

Tue Nov 15, 2005 1:52 pm

Hi everyone! In light of all the worst/nicest places to live threads, I thought I would start a thread on the nicest places you have been. The rules are that you must have been to the place. Also, please no fights over what is nice and what is not, this is all your opinions. On my list I would include...

Vancouver: I know I live really close, but I have to say that Vancouver is honestly the nicest place I have ever been. It is on the water, has amazing views of mountains and everyone is very friendly. It is also not overly big.

Cortona (Italy) Beautiful little hill town in central Italy. One of the most beautiful, peaceful places I have been. Amazing panoramic views too.

Rome Aside from all the priceless works of art and historical sites, I like how fast paced everything is. The weather is a big plus too.

P.S. I know this has probably been discussed before in the past, but not in a while so lets do it again.

Morges, Switzerland. Near Lake Geneva, (if I remember correctly), clean, quiet, scenery reminiscent of B.C. Canada, great quisine.

In my opinion it's a toss up between Cape Breton Island and the Bavarian Alps & Central Austria. As far as cities go, no.2 is München, but no.1 is:

Damn, forgot Vancouver I. too. Just too many nice places in the world and I've been to so few.

If you ever have the chance to go you should. Some people say it's a once in a lifetime experience, but it doesn't have to be just once  Wink I'm going back in January  Smile

There's so much history there it would take ages to see it all.

Greece (My all time number 1!!)

Palolem Beach in Goa

Egypt

The Greenstone Track (NZ Sth Island)

The secluded backwaters of the Chiltern Hills in the UK, wouldn't give you 2 euro's for Amersham or Chesham but get out of town and its gorgeous in early summer.

Yorkshire Dales, in fact any Limestone landscape.

My boat on a still evening.

Hard to pick just one, but I guess my all time favouritest ever place is Rome - 3000 years of history underfoot, overlaid with the most amazingly superficial hyperactivity that takes it all completely for granted - it's an amazing mix.

And Sydney of course - my favourite place to live.

Favourite island - Bora Bora, or Komodo - to close to call

It's hard to single out one place, but here's a couple I would go back to tomorrow if I could.

Kuala Lumpar - lots to see, lovely people, excellent food.

Palmyra (Syria) - so much to see, no tourists, food a bit dodgy though.

Chatham (Cape Cod) - just to sit and watch the waves rolling in off the Atlantic.

Jaisalmer - lovely buildings, warmth, good food.

Bora Bora - amazingly beautiful and small. Clearest water!
Venice - OK, its crowded and sometimes smells, but it is magical.
Hong Kong - same reasons as above
Vancouver - same reasons as the other posters
Polperro - beautiful south of England seaside town
Edinburgh - majestic and beautiful city
Hobart - but too cold to live there
Perth - but I already live there
And quite a few others. Oh, and Rochester, of course, because - um, well, err, um, - damn, I've had enough to drink for one night lol.
Cheers

I also thought that Kobe in Japan was magnificent. Clean, great food, lovely people, and a beautiful, beautiful place.

The old city in Stockholm is also worth a mention!

Trent.

Yosemite.

Period. Just majestic beyond words. And there are few experiences more magical than skiing down a mountain overlooking Lake Tahoe.

As far as cities visited, Id' say Vancouver is definitely up there. What a hell of a great place. I was so impressed.

I visited Lillehammer Norway at the tail end of the Olympics and found it to be enchanting. There's something about the Olympic thing perhaps, but I was captivated.

Scuba diving in Grand Cayman is up there too. I have never seen water so beautiful.

Venice, Venice and...oh I dunno...Venice?!

OK, so I went there in late November when it didn't smell, most of the tourists were at home getting ready for Christmas and the weather was just perfect (clear, crisp days), but I would go back there tomorrow if I could get the day off work!

When I was young, my biggest travelling ambition was to see the skyscrapers of New York and visit USA. My wish was granted when my sister, who lived in Canada, got married and I went over for the wedding. Our trip was combined with a visit to USA, travelling down from Toronto to New York and then up through New England to Prince Edward Island where the wedding was held.

New York, New England and the Niagara Falls did not disappoint me but I preferred Toronto, even though before that visit I had not even thought about Canada.

After the excitement of the big cities and New England, we arrived at Charlottetown PEI where most of the holiday would be based. My initial thoughts were, "What are we doing in this dump!" but after a few days I feel in love with the town, the islands, the people and the atmosphere. Even to this day, it is the nicest place I have ever visited and I just cannot wait to go back.

Besides Ireland, 3 weeks in Barcelona were enough for me to fall in love with the city, and my grandma's beach house in lyford cay, nassau is possibly the most perfect beach I have ever been to, and I could lie in the sand there for a year and not get tired of it.
