I believe there are lots of things flying around that are unidentified.

Do I believe they are full of aliens who have mastered faster than light travel and yet still have an odd penchant for kidnapping the stupidest, most backward, trailer dwelling rejects humanity can produce? Errr... no.

Nope. There are too many secret military aviation projects we hear about years after they've been succesfully finished for me to wonder about lights appearing somewhere they "don't belong".

"Mars Attacks!" was fun to watch though.  Wink

I'm open minded about ET. Gotta see to believe, but can't disbelieve that there's something way out there that's smarter than us.

As for whether they're already here - no, I don't believe that.

I don't think little green aliens are hopping on their crafts wanting to abduct us or even control our minds.

I mean if you are not familiar with the sky, any unusual object can make you jump to erroneous conclusions. But there is a group of people who are very familiar with the sky—by some estimates there are as many as 100,000 amateur astronomers in the US alone—who spend many hours every week doing nothing but looking into the sky. They own telescopes and binoculars and spend every clear night outside looking up. These folks are looking at the sky all the time. Yet, of all the people who claim to have seen a UFO, not one has been an amateur astronomer.

As a matter of fact, I've never heard or read about any amateur astronomers seeing something in the sky they absolutely could not explain. Yet they spend far more time looking at the sky than ordinary lay people and statistically should see far more UFOs! How can this be?

I do believe however that we are not the only ones in this vast universe. Space is so big...why the hell would ET come all the way here to our insignificant little planet and draw crop circles and mutilate cattle (or even pose for photos for B744F for that matter)?

Anyway...even if faster than light travel is possible, then where are the aliens? Our civilization has been around for a few thousand years, and we are starting to explore the near reaches of space. If we had faster than light travel, we could populate the entire Galaxy in just a few thousand years. Even with slower than light ships we could do it in a few million years at most.

That may sound like a long time, but not in the galactic sense. Elsewhere, a star like the Sun, only a few hundred million years older, might have had a booming civilization on one of its planets while trilobites swam in our own oceans. If this civilization decided to colonize the Galaxy, then by now the whole place should be filled with them.

But then, why do we see so many of their spaceships? Why do people believe that incredibly advanced aliens come here in spaceships, yet these aliens are still so dumb that a bunch of primitives who barely understand atomic energy can photograph them ten times a day.

So..no I am not a believer of UFOs...and sorry for the long post  Smile

I'd like it to be real, in the sense of "Gee wouldn't that be neat", but I don't really believe there are UFOs flying all over.

I have no doubt that there is other sentient life in the universe, and they have likely figured out space travel, just as we have, and who knows, maybe even FTL travel. Maybe we'll meet someone/thing someday, but for now, I tend to believe we have our little blue ball to ourselves.

Funny how the majority of "UFO's" are seen in the US and surrounding areas. Most of what people see is probably highly top secret US spy/war planes. The USAF has mind-boggling stuff in it's armoury, aircraft that would put Concorde or the F-16 to shame in terms of speed and agility. I do believe there is intelligent life out there, but i'm a bit sceptical that they've visited earth. Alien abduction claims from people are a bit weird though.

Be that as it may about top-secret aircraft, the National Geographic Channel program "Is It Real?" had an episode about UFOs and they pointed out something interesting: the popular alien abduction myth is an almost uniquely American phenomenon. UFO sightings are very popular in Mexico although many of these encounters with aliens tend to be "telepathic" as opposed to visual (whatever that means). No widespread reports of kidnappings though.

These alleged aduction experiences that people have are probably due to sleep paralysis, where someone in REM sleep experiences temporary paralysis associated with hallucinations. Depending on your cultural identity, you have your garden variety alien abductions here in the US, the kanashibari phenomenon in Japan, or a visit from the incubus or succubus during medieval times, along with many other types around the world (the old hag being my favorite).

Carl Sagan said it best about the UFO advocates claiming millions of people have been abducted: "It’s surprising more of the neighbors haven’t noticed."

That's priceless!  rotfl

Yes, I do believe. I have never seen any, but I do think they exist. People believe in many thinks that we never have evidence for (god, evolution, dinosaurs, ghosts, WMDs in Iraq). I am not the kind of person who needs proof in order to believe things so I don't see why somebody should have to prove their existence to me... I just believe  bouncy

LOL

If you look at how many billions and billions of stars there are in the universe, I find it hard to believe that there isn't some other life out there in a solar system surrounding a star like ours. However, I don't think any of them have come and visited here. Even being able to travel at the speed of light, it could still take thousands of years for a space ship to travel to another galaxy or even a solar system. I think there are some inherent problems with traveling at the speed of light as well. (I saw a video about it in physics, something about time slowing down while you travel at the speed of light, I think it had something to do with the doppler effect. Me sleeping through half of it didn't help my comprehension at all.) That is assuming of course that these alien beings are intelligent enough to do this or are even aware of our location. These aliens could simply be bacteria or something lame like that. That being said I hope if any aliens come and visit, they are like ET and not like the ones from War of the Worlds or Independence day, b/c those aliens were assholes.

Oh and those who do claim to be abducted might not be welfare-whores, but they are certainly attention-whores.

BTW 99.9% of "abductees" are trailer-trash

I have had three different encounters with UFOs in my life.

The first one is most memorable. At age 9, I spent the whole summer of 1984 up on Grand Traverse Bay, Michigan, at a summer camp. One July night, as we boys were bedding down in our cabin for the night, a big, bright red light suddenly appeared, hovering some distance outside, visible through our north window. Several of my bunkmates stood by the window looking out, and I could also see it from my bunk. I had never, and never have since, seen such a big bright red light! I have no idea what it could have been; no known aircraft has big red lights on it. Incidentally, a few weeks later, while planning our cabin play (to perform for the camp), we incorporated the "Red Beamer", as we called our UFO, into the story!

More recently, I had two separate sightings of strange lights out in the country, between Auburn, IN, and Fort Wayne, IN, both times while out driving. One was a nighttime sighting of three white lights in a triangle hovering south of my car, over the church we were driving to. The second sighting was an early-morning one, while I was driving south toward Fort Wayne, IN. A bright green light streaked across the sky, in a westerly direction.

I've been abducted several times, but won't go into it! (Sure...)
