What To Do In Singapore For 16 Hours?

Sat Nov 19, 2005 10:56 am

I will be transiting through Singapore on my way back to Australia from India in January. I reach SIN at 06:50 in the morning and my flight out is at 23:50! So I have around 16 hours to kill...what should I do?

1. Get a hotel room and sleep (apparently the one in the airport is really nice, and the good thing is that I don't have to go through customs/immigration etc).

2. See Singapore (I've only been there once before in 1998, but never bothered to see the place, as I was transiting for just 1 hr)

3. Go spotting  biggrin

Thanks in advance  Smile

How did yuo end up with a 16hour stop. There are plenty of well timed connections on your trip.

There's a free bus that takes you around the city from the airport. Great for transit passengers. However if it was me, I'd head straight to the Hawker centres for some good Singaporean food. Try Newton Circus for some good Hainanese Chicken rice, or maybe Chilli Stingray.

If you're into animals, there's a great zoo but it's quite a distance from the airport.

Is there perhaps a guided bus/walk tour of the area/city you could take? That along with a snooz, cleanup, and a decent meal could take up the time you need.

Quoting Springbok747 (Thread starter):
1. Get a hotel room and sleep (apparently the one in the airport is really nice, and the good thing is that I don't have to go through customs/immigration etc).

It is nice, with comfortable beds and HUGE windows to spot with. We stayed in room two, which was just past the checkin desk. Room two, along with all the others I guess, runs parallel to one of the runways (which would make sense seeing as the building is positioned between Changi's two parallel runways) and there was a taxiway aligned with the window which made the four hours or so I had to stay there nice (the fact that the 777 is my favourite plane and the Singapore airlines pilots seemed to land on this runway because it's closer to their gates ensured this time was enjoyed).

With my camera packed in my bags all I had was the video camera so the few shots I took weren't very good but here's a couple.

Anyway, I enjoyed the hotel but I'd been in Singapore for over two weeks so I'd done everything else I'd wanted to do. If your after day trips in Singapore I'd go for a river cruise in a Bumboat...

...or just go into the city for a while, there's plenty of Hawker centres in the city, the stores will be air conditioned so you won't feel as grossly sweaty when you get on your flight and there's plenty to see in there, though it is a lot like Melbourne. You'll probably be most comfortable staying in the hotel because then you don't have to worry about being late for check-in or about feeling as dirty when you get on board, we only hired our room in the airport for four hours to rest in and have shower in before the flight, but which ever option you choose I hope you have fun.

Cheers mate,

Now I want to stay in that hotel!

I guess I'll just go on one of those tours, then get back to the hotel and do some spotting.

On my way from Sweden to NZ I spent 9 hours at Changi. I had planned to into the city, but the weather was bad that day so I stayed at the airport. I recommend you to go up to the roof and have a cup of coffee by the pool when you arrive. That's what I did. And there are free movies and lots of other stuff going on.

There is a pool on top of terminal 1, Its S$13.95

Watch planes, you can easily get around both terminals.

Go into the city.
