Collge FB: Instant Classic: OSU 25, Michigan 21

Sun Nov 20, 2005 9:08 am

It's too bad Ohio State QB Troy Smith didn't play against Texas and Penn State early in the year the way he played today against "that school up North". Smith played the game of his life, as the Bucks overcame numerous mistakes to score two fourth quarter touchdowns to beat win the game.

WAY TO GO BUCKEYES!!  bigthumbsup

My congrats to the Baylor Bears, who have amazingly sealed themselves a finish out of the Big 12 South cellar by beating Oklahoma State 44-34...Im sure BAB is at this very moment getting royally trashed in celebrating this amazing accomplishment...5th place in the South for Baylor is some kind of miracle...

In all likelihood Auburn or Georgia, it'll be Jan. 2 at the Capital One Bowl (Big 10 runner up vs. SEC runner up)

Good question. They could get the Capital One bid, as stated above, or they could get one of the two at-large BCS bids. Notre Dame will probably get one, and OSU could get the second one. How about OSU-ND? OSU-Miami? Pretty good matchups there.

They will simply because the BCS is setup in such a way that Notre Dame goes to a BCS bowl if they finish in the Top 10.

You'll have to excuse Falcon, his hometown football team sucks so badly that he really does have to put his heart and soul into a college team 150 miles away.

The 'Canes go down to Georgia Tech? WTF? Not that tech is dog's meat, but in Miami, that should be a 'Canes win. That puts Va Tech and Florida in drivers' seat in the ACC, and puts serious doubt that the 'Canes will get one of those at-large BCS bids.

And Fresno State is slugging it out with USC. Wouldn't that just throw the BCS into total chaos! I think SC will win this one ,but one can only hope for such Chaos.

Anyone want to guess who would be the favorite for the Rose Bowl, should the impossible happen, and USC lose today? How about Penn State?

I think you can make a strong case for LSU. As one of the analysts mentioned today, would Tennessee have any chance of beating LSU now? That game was back in September when Tennessee was still a top 10 team

No, and if it weren't for the fact that SEC refs are among the worst in the country, they should've beaten Florida, too.

Oh, and Auburn won their fourth straight Iron Bowl Big grin

Don't look now, but Fresno State is playing a helluva game at USC. They've just taken it to the Trojans.

USC has been a great second half team, but this one could be another Instant Classic if this keeps up.

Hell fuckin yeah. It also guarantees the most important thing, that "the U" (who knows who came up with that annoying bullshit) will finish below FSU in the ACC...the way it should be. The bad thing is that FSU had a far better chance against M*ami than Tech.

Not a chance. Not only based on record, but they don't travel well fan-wise. There were at least 30,000 at that game tonight, they can't even come close to selling that dump out.

Yes, I am piling on. Why not Big grin

USC has come out in the third quarter and hit Fresno with a roundhouse right. Three quick touchdowns, and Fresno is just falling apart.

USC is an incredible 2nd half team, no doubt.

Fresno State is doing more to help USC win than USC is.

This game might go down as one of the great self destructions in college football.

I've seen worse, but FS just threw an INT on 3rd and goal, and 5 plays later, Reggie Bush breaks another run where he goes almost untouched for a TD.

With respect to Matt Leinert and Vince Young, I think I gotta give the Heisman to Bush after watching him against FS and Notre Dame.

Gawddang, but I'm glad I stayed up late to watch this one. Fresno has taken the best shot USC can give them, and have survived.

I was thinking, though, that even if USC loses, they still have a shot to go to the title game, especially with Miami losing today.

I'm convinced now, whatever the outcome of this game, that Texas is the best team in the nation.

Damn it. I'm a giant Fresno State fan. It was a helluva game, on both sides, but it would have been arguably one of the greatest upsets ever if we would have held on. That was an instant classic. Fresno would kick Notre Dame's Golden ass if we ever played them. Unfortunately after tonight, I doubt that anyone will play us in the near future.

A game that is under the radar screens, but proves that the drama and mystique of college football isn't only owned by the big D-1A powers, was The Game yesterday between D1AA and Ivy League archrivals Harvard and Yale in New Haven, CT.
Having not defeated Harvard in five years (the longest streak in the history of the series since the 1920s), and being embarrassed last year 35-3 in Cambridge, Yale put on a show in front of the home crowd that lasted just past the end of the first half, leading 21-3 with 11 minutes left in the third quarter. However, that was when the Harvard comeback started.
with six minutes left, Yale kicks a field goal that seemingly makes the game out of reach 24-16, but Harvard's next drive ends successfully with a touchdown and two point conversion.
So, we're off to overtime (for the first time ever in the history of the series) in the fading light of the Yale bowl (which lacks lighting). 3 overtimes later, Harvard crushes the hopes of the Yale faithful on a two yard run by Clifton Dawson that ended the game. It was the longest football game ever in Ivy League history.
And I was there, in a drunken stupor, to witness it all and see more evidence as to why going to Yale sporting events ain't helping my depression.

Yeah, isn't it great!  Silly

Seirously, Michigan played the way I expected them to play yesterday-tough, with a lot of heart, and took it right to Ohio State. You can't blame Chad Henne this year, as he played about as well as a QB with no running attack could play. He was sensational, in fact. But you can't beat OSU with a one-dimensional attack, and Michigan on defense simply didn't have the horses this yeare to keep Ohio State out of the end zone all game long. OSU has too much offenseive firepower for that.

And it's too bad Fresno State turned the ball over 5 times, because with the exception of Reggie Bush (a HUGE exception, I understand), they outplayed and outhustled USC. The one INT when Fresno was down at the goal line was a killer.

Reggie Bush is the best player in the nation; Texas is the best team in the nation.
