I'm Heading To Nashville, What's There To Do?

Thu Nov 24, 2005 3:39 am

Well in about an hour, I'm driving down to Nashville. Living in San Francisco, I'm 100% positive that the life in Nashville is completely different. As I will have about 3 days in the city, I wanted to find out about some activities and places I can enjoy while there. So anyone have anything to share?

You can take a mini road trip to the Jack Daniel's distillery.

If you like music, particularly country, there's lots to do and see.

Check the schedules, you can probably catch an NFL or NHL game while in town. Vandy B-Ball is also good.

There are also several Civil War type museums, etc. in the area that can be interesting.

Are you really driving all the way for a 3 day visit? It's cheaper to fly WN. If you are driving, stop off in Memphis for BBQ and Blues! Nashville's OK, but IMHO Memphis is a hell of a lot more fun.
Where are all of my respected members going?

This is totally worth it. They have a great tour, and the guides are pretty special.

There are a few interesting brew pubs in downtown Nashville, my favourite is Big River, just on the river front, at the end of Broadway. The Blackstone Brewery is also worth a visit.

Sure, we're concerned for our lives. Just not as concerned as saving 9 bucks on a roundtrip to Ft. Myers.

Every time I went there I was going to prison. However, I could leave once my official business was done there. Seriously though, see the Parthenon. It's located in Centennial Park downtown. Also pay a visit to the Tennessee State Capitol. The architect who designed it is entombed within one of the walls, making it the only statehouse in the nation with a tomb. If you're interested in Civil War history, take an hour drive to Stones River National Military Park. The Jack Daniel's distillery tour is also worth a visit. However, Lynchburg is well off the nearest interstate and you should allow most of the day if you do it.

Outside of Beale Street and the Peabody Hotel duck march, the best part of Memphis is seeing it in your rearview mirror.

Lots to see and do in Nashville. Try to have lunch at the Bellemeade Cafeteria on Bellmeade Avenue. If you want to experience a taste of the south prior to say 1950, that would be the place to do it. Franklin, TN is also a neat little town to investigate if you have the time. The Govenors mansion is a neat place to drive by and if you buy a map there are plenty of country stars homes located near Nashville most to the south in Brentwood and Franklin areas. Haven't been to music row in a few years but it's worth the drive around the 8-10 block area. Supposdly the new Country Music Hall of Fame is pretty neat too. Just a few suggestions. Have fun the people are great.
Warm winds blowing, heating blue skies, and a road that goes forever, I'm going to Texas!
