While LoDuca is by no means the dominant hitting threat that Piazza was, he offers a solid bat and good "D." He could be the glue that keeps NY's latest experiment with high-priced free agency in contention through the playoffs.
Meanwhile, the Indians grab crafty veteran pitcher Paul Byrd. Put Byrd on the 2005 Tribe, and they make the playoffs. I still think the Indians played above their ability for the second half of last season, and I'm doubtful for as stron a showing, but the solidified pitching threat should give the White Sox and Twins a run for their money, and possibly give Cleveland the division.
