That New Orleans classic, the muffaletta [muhf-fuh-LEHT-tuh]:

The sandwich consists of a round loaf of Italian bread, split and filled with layers of sliced Provolone cheese, Genoa salami and Cappicola ham, topped with olive salad: a chopped mixture of green, unstuffed olives, pimientos, celery, garlic, cocktail onions, capers, oregano, parsley, olive oil, red-wine vinegar, salt and pepper. The olive salad is what makes it so damn good; without it, it's just a plain old sandwich.

I forget what it is called exactly, but my friend's mom makes something called Punani or something to the extent of that.

It is like a toasted ham and cheese sandwich. It was good.

Personally my favorite sandwhich is a boars head roast beef sub prepared at a Publix deli to order with provolone, lettuce, S&P, onions, mayo, and honey mustard... my favorite non-deli sandwhich is the "honey mustard chicken with bacon" at quizzno's... mmm

bigthumbsup  Yea baby! You got it! Thick hearty grilled rye bread, creamy melted swiss cheese, tangy russian dressing, tart saurkraut, and a steaming pile of savory, spicy corned beef! Yum!

Hey Aero!
Have you ever been to Pittsburgh?
There is this famous sandwich place there called Primanti Bros. They make all there sandwiches on thick fresh bread, grilled with your choice of meat and cheese, and then topped with fresh tomato, cole slaw and french fries! All on the same sandwich! Damn are they ever good. especially the Pastrami and Swiss. I highly recommend it!

I googled Pannini and got some church, but then I googled the correction, Panini, and it is what I was talking about! It was so good. So its called Panini.

I also googled Punani... I wouldn't mind eating that too!

Hey Steve,
Gotta give you a  bigthumbsup  on the Muffleto. I have never been to NOLA, but we have a local sandwich shop that puts them on the specials board about once a month. I always get one when they have them. Just love that combination of the olive salad and the italian meats. Damn! I'm hungry now!

To be honest, I have a soft spot for a good old pastrami sandwich on rye bread.

I also like sandwiches from a shop called Edouard's in the Rive area of Geneva.

As I have stated above, my affinity for Ruebens and Muffleto, I forgot to mention my all time favorite. That would have to be a Pit Beef sandwich. Top round, or Brisket of beef, slow rotissere roasted over an open pit, served on a soft kiser roll, with mayo, onions and horseradish.
Oh my, I think I need to go find a cow!  rotfl

I'm still freaked out by "Heinz Salad Cream." What is it? Is it meant for tossed salad?

I can't decide between my two favorites: A pastrami sandwich from Tops in Pasadena, or the meatball sandwich from Gene's Grinders in Monrovia.

Pick up a bottle next time you're in Sainsburys. Awesome stuff on salad and bread - more tangy than Miracle Whip.

You've heard right, nothing like a medianoche at 1 in the morning from Versailles on calle ocho after you've had a couple drinks... It's this really good sweet cuban bread with mayo, mustard, lots of butter, swiss cheese, pickles, pork, and ham... might not sound too good, but just look at it...

Ok, well maybe it doesn't look too hot either, but I can assure you it tastes good... mix that with a plate of arroz con habichuelas and some sweet plantains (amarillos? something like that), followed by a cortadito, and I'm one happy camper. By the way, on a vaguely related note, anyone else from miami needs to go to the vietnamese restaraunt across the street from versailles, called Hy Vong. It's incredible.
