Captain Slow is flying the plane and he can't go over the Alps, so they have to go around them.

It's pissing me off that i can only see the old season's over here. Hate it.
I only get BBC prime and they show episodes from the stone age although they're still good.
It will take another decade to finally get to season 5 or 6.

Top Gear really is the best show on TV. It wastes '5th Gear', and is a better talk show than many others! The blend of humour works really well.

I never miss it!

Yeah - always rigged so the car wins!

Reminds me of hte first one they did - Jeremy in a car vs. Hamster and May flying BA. Naturally they chose the slowest forms of travel to/from the airports.

I think if May could fly IFR they would have won easily!

Discovery channel was showing them earlier this year, and apparently they will start again soon, but I doubt the eipsodes would be any more recent than last season... still, gives me a needed car fix now that speedchannel is such utter shit with 40 redundant nascar shows for every worthwhile program.

any truth to this:

"The BBC has announced that Top Gear is to be taken off air for a "thorough overhaul". Essentially that means it's completely fuckered and you'll have more chance of seeing the Mary Rose re-launched next year. To mark the death of Britain's favourite way to waste half an hour on a Thursday night, Sniff Petrol looks back at the history of BBC2's motoring flagship."

http://www.sniffpetrol.com/issue002.html

-----
well, after reading a few of the other "news" articles, it is probably just satire.
especially after reading this:

"BBC driving series Top Gear and a Holocaust documentary, made by the BBC with German and Polish producers, have won international Emmy awards."

The car did, cos May didn't have a licence to fly in the dark, so they had to jump on the Eurostar, then bus it to the Natwest tower, where Jeremy was there, but only just.

The hamster and Captain Slow got a bit lost in the restaurant so Jeremy had more time, and they were in the lift at the same time.

Great show.

And Mansell 1.44.6 I think, and they Stig said that was possible, funny is Mansell was the Stig.

I think that is referring to what they did a few years ago. Essentially, the current Top Gear is the revamp. It's changed dramatically in the last two series - much for the better, it was good before, now it's superb.

And actually, Clarkson was talking about Top Gear a while ago, and made the probably accurate point that the BBC is just about the only station that can do it. Because they don't rely on advertising revenue, they are free to slag off and take the piss out of every car manufacturer out there. Commercial stations just can't do it to the same degree.

There was a time when Toyota (I think) actually refused to let Clarkson drive its cars. I'm not sure the French will for much longer either....

I think you're right - and in the new format I think its one of the most watched shows on BBC2 - they also export it to many countries around the world, so it does make money for them.

And yes it is essential, hilarious Sunday night viewing.....

As for TG finishing, remember it goes out on BBC and UKTV (with advertising) plus internationally, so it's a moneymaker for Auntie.

The best ever moment in this program for me was the Transit on the Nurburgring. That girl had some guts to follow through with that!

Their marketing people must be holding their heads in their hands knowing that everyone will now refer to their new Cayman coupe as the Porsche Cockster  rotfl

Didn't they stop showing it in the States for those reasons, along with them being uncomfortable about JC constantly slagging off various firms?

I remember him talking about doing a special one for a US network and them asking him to tone down some of the comments for fear of offending advertisers.

No idea, but I can't see Clarkson dropping the American incest jokes for anyone. It's not in his nature, and it's part of his schtick.

The whole "Americans make cars which won't go round corners but only when they are not having sex with family members" is one of his longest running routines. His main criticisms are of BMW and Mercedes cars, plus hatred of almost all Vauxhalls.

Until one got its revenge on him and crippled him!

I was amazed at that show last night! Clarkson, May and Hammond are just fantastic.

You have to admire the show that has developed. Now I thought when JC did the trip to Norway in the SLR was good, last nights show completely topped this by a long shot!

For anyone that is interested, I went out and got JC's "Heaven & Hell" DVD a few weeks ago, and it is absolutely FANTASTIC!

I believe '5th Gear' is shown on our (Fox owned) "Speed Channel" at odd times and most seem to be cobbled 'best of' shows. Speed channel also shows some F-1 races, WRC, and a UK show called something like 'Motosport world'. They have in the past also shown truck racing from the EU as well.
Please Discovery in the USA, could we have more 'Top Gear' episodes?

5th Gear is the Channel Five programme that is more or less reminiscent of the old-style Top Gear, including having many of the old presenters.

Fifth gear is a poor imitation generally featuring ex-Top Gear presenter Quentin "Clocker" Wilson and some woman with a double-barrelled name and zero talent.

Clarkson recently humiliated him at an awards ceremony by getting horribly pissed and screaming "WANKER!" during a short speech Wilson was making.
