Read Any Good Books Lately?

Tue Dec 13, 2005 3:25 pm

Even though I'm in school full time I find time to keep up with one of my passions.

Recommend Reading List:

  • See No Evil, Robert Baer
  • The World is Flat, Thomas Friedman
  • Jarhead, Anthony Swofford
  • Sleeping with the Devil, Robert Baer
  • Shooter, Jack Coughlin
  • Our Endangered Values, President Jimmy Carter
  • Freakonomics, Steven D. Levitt & Stephen J. Dubner

I'm looking for another good military/current event book to read, suggestions?

What? No Charles Bukowski? Probably a bit racey for one so young!!

As for military, you can't beat "ChickenHawk" but also anything by a WW2 fighter Ace is always worth a read.

Not bad.

The best book I came across lately was The Assault by Harry Mulisch, a haunting, moving and very satisfying read.

Ghost Wars: The Secret History of the CIA, Afghanistan, and Bin Laden, from the Soviet Invasion to September 10, 2001 by Steve Coll.

Long, but fascinating.

I'm in the process of reading two books about the most famous squadron in US Marine Corps history - Baa Baa Black Sheep by Gregory "Pappy" Boyington, and The Black Sheep: The Definitive Account of Marine Fighting Squadron 214 in World War II by Bruce Gamble. Both are GREAT books.

Yep...I'm still reading for fun despite the fact that it is finals week.
