Do You Get On With Your Neighbours?

Wed Dec 14, 2005 4:41 am

Do you get on like a house on fire or have you got the neighbours from hell?

I haven't talked to my neighbors in about a year, dunno if my parents have. Hardly ever see them because they all work. I'm feeling a bit left out though because I live in a cul de sac with 3 houses and my house is the only one without a silver porsche  Angry.

Yes we get on well with all our neighbours, send christmas cards each year and we're all on the Neighbourhood watch scheme so...

I'm close to turning my neighbors in to the cops. People arriving at odd hours and not staying long. They're peddling something, I'm convinced of it, and it's not their looks, if you know what I mean.

Well, one set of neighbours go to bed at 6pm, and never go out, and the other set of neighbours always copy our decorating, but we get on well with them. There has been a fight in our street a couple of years ago due to the way people are parking their cars. I live in a cul-de-sac which allows three cars to be parked, but we somehow manage to get three cars and a big transit van. Rant over (otherwise i'll be on all day).

Yes, very well. We keep an eye out for each other. On one side, we have a carpenter. So, he fixes our deck and I fix his computers. On the other side, we have a pest control guy. He keeps my house free from carpenter ants, and I take care of their cat. I also jumped up in the middle of the night and scared away a burglar who was trying to break into their car. We all clean up after a snow storm if one of us is away.

I like my neighbors!

There are ten houses on our cul de sac, and we really feel blessed to have such great friends on our street.

True, we are the token gay couple, but that has never been an issue.

We are all about the same age, mid-forties or so, some are a bit younger with children, but we socialize with all of them (except for the Vietnamese family who have made no effort with any of us, in fact when we send out our Christmas party invitation, they don't even bother to respond! Just plain rude, but may be a cultural thing.).

We tend to really help each other out when needed, and it is a very good feeling. During the blackout a few years ago we had a great BBQ, and since I had a gas stove, I was the one who was able to cook and make coffee!

As I am very handy with tools, I tend to get asked to help out with some basic home repairs, so I've seen everyone's house!!!

Twice a year we have a progressive dinner on our street, and during the summer we will often BBQ together.

We are closest we our direct neighbor and will often go out for dinner and drinks with her and her boyfriend.

We are also friendly with a few other people in our sub-division, and see them often as well.

I guess we are very, very lucky.

Yes, but not with all of them. The ones I don't get on with, don't like me beacuse I play the drums  Wink, but they're moving away in early '06 anyways, so I don't really care Big grin

At our old house we had crappy neighbours (proper Wayne & Waynetta family), kids riding motorbikes at all hours, banging on walls all day and night - the main reason we left.

We are now on a cul-de-sac with a lot of old people around - so we get on well with everyone. The next door neighbours are both around our age and work for a living like we do so it's really cool. Everyone keeps stopping us and commenting on our christmas lights!  Smile

We live in a apartment complex, a sort of a Melrose Place set-up, but then without the swimming pool. Twenty-four apartments, of which five inhabited by gays. And a sixth owned by 'cutey' Frans is a source of constant speculation. Everyone is on first name terms. Our direct neighbours - a couple in their late fifties - are great friends. They look after our cats when we are away. Christmas .. eh sorry.. Happy Holidays cards, birthday cards, spontaneous (dinner) parties, communal Holiday Tree in the communal gardens. All great fun. My boyfriend and I tend the communal gardens.

We all get on...

My neighbors are alright... I usually just say hi to them on the way in or out... Although the lady upstairs directly above me is PSYCHO!!!! I try to avoid her at all costs, but sometimes she happens to be coming or going when I am... Usually I just say I gotta run.

We're in an end unit of a condo complex - 2 up 2 down, so there's four units on the 'face' of our building. The lady downstairs is a tranplant from Oz, I do her books and computer stuff, she watches our cat and does the occasional floor scrub for us (she has a condo cleaning business). The guy next door is a retired cop, very quiet and keeps his windows and door shut (unusual in Hawaii), but always polite when we see him. A new family moved into the unit kitty corner to us - Mom & Dad and 3 kids - we groaned when we saw them, figured we'd hear kids screaming all the time. They've turned out to be the most well behaved, polite and considerate kids I've ever met. Almost give me hope for the next generation! So yes - I'm very lucky - everybody that I interact with on a regular basis is great.

We have known our neighbors for 18 yrs, so we have a pretty good relationship with them. One of our neighbors is a orthopedic surgeon, and the other neighbor is an optometrist ( I dated his daughter for three years  Smile ) We watch out for eachother so we get along nicely...

To the east are a pair of nice old single people each in a twin townhouse...my watchdogs.

To the south is an old man who thinks I'm the nicest asshole on Earth.

To the west is a gaggle of trailer trash...a low-rent 8-plex with neglected, bratty, misbehaved kids.

To the north is an Army guy and his family...moved from Minnesota a year ago. They never talk to anyone unless there's a tornado coming.

I was out on the front last night getting something from the car when this old couple walked past dead slowly (as old people do), and the woman said "You know Albert I really do like that house - it's very pretty!".....

The neighbours are all starting to catch up a bit now - but there's are all a lot more subtle...not like Blackpool Illuminations.

I have good neighbors with a couple of exceptions. I don't exactly live in a culdesac...more like the end of a road...but most of us get along.

Honestly, its the doggies that brought us together. We are all cool with having our dogs outside in our "area" without leashes, and that's really nice. It's a funny sight: there's about 8 dogs of all sizes playing together...like a group of kids!

The neighbours to the left of us we get on with pretty well. Although the hubby is always coming and going at all times of day, my mum complains that she is sometimes woken by him coming home or leaving the house at 3-4-5 am in the morning!

The one on the right of us is a single mum with two rugrats. These kids are pretty strange. Often we'll pull up in the car and they'll stare at us, and not say anything? Like WTF.

Hoping that my new neighbours (when my lovely and I move) are nice people!

Cheers,

We get on good with our neighbors.

The people at one side are an older couple late 50's-early 60's.

The other side is a hot babe in her 40's. Her dog and my brother-in-law's dog that lives with us don't get on very well though. I dread the day when he vaults the fence and deals with it once and for all!

Don't really know the neighbors in my apartment complex...I did meet one of the people who lived next to me, and we were friendly and chatted on occasion, but she's since moved out and the new neighbor has yet to reveal him/herself...the neighbor on the other side, Ive never met, and never actually seen, though I know someone lives there cause I can hear raucousness through the walls...
