Holiday Tips?

Wed Dec 14, 2005 6:15 am

T'is the season at which we generally give gifts to people who do things for
us through the year. Who do you tip--postman--paper deliverer--hair stylist--
trash people-someone else? And how much?

(My sister never tipped the people who deliver the papers...until she found out how much her sister...who delivers papers in another state..depends on
them  yes  )

Holiday tips?

Well, I hear the Grand Canyon is nice. Or Florida.

Cheers

Sure, we're concerned for our lives. Just not as concerned as saving 9 bucks on a roundtrip to Ft. Myers.

My tip to them is to never drink Eggnog on an empty stomach.....

I used to really annoy me the amount of tipping I had to do when I lived in the US. Drove me insane.

The only time when I don't tip is when traveling abroad and the "Service XX% included" is deliberately crossed off the bill when presented, after the server finds out I'm American. I won't even leave the few coins of change.

For the paper deliverer we typically tip $20, along with a Christmas card.

We always tip our hair stylist, so that doesn't change any during the holiday season.

Where would one leave a tip for the paper person? It's dark when we get ours, and they throw it from a moving car. Its been that way everywhere I've lived.

The paper deliverer actually walks around the neighbourhood, so we can give him the envelope when he comes around 6:30.

If he drove around in a car, and we never met him, then a tip wouldn't be possible.

Ours slip a Christmas card into the paper..which carries their home address.
Since one manages to get the paper in by 3:15am, the other by 5:30, rain, shine, or hurricane, I very much appreciate their efforts. Used to get the Sunday NY Times by 11pm Saturday night...about the time the early edition was available in NYC.
