Jobs At Boeing

Thu Dec 15, 2005 8:05 am

Does anyone know the best way to get a job at Boeing? I have a BS in Computer Science and am in the middle of my Masters in the same subject. Any advice would be appreciated.

If you can think of a way to sell a couple of those 777LR's they would probably be quite keen to talk to you.

Maybe I should have been a bit clearer...I was looking for advice on applying to Boeing specifically, maybe from people who work there...things like "they like this on the resume, I know this person, I have interviewed there before, here are some tips, I work there this is what you have to do etc etc etc..."

Fair enough.

I'm a Boeing vendor - all I know is that they like people who know their stuff - people they can rely on. Maybe I'll ask a few folks I know there about your questions.

Good Luck.

If you get the job, count on being laid off a few times. Their employement levels go up and down with the tide of the ocean.

I used to work for Boeing. IDS in Huntington Beach, all I did was go down to their on-site day and basically got myself an internship - then did well enough that they offered me a job for when I graduate from university, which I accepted at the time, before realising that that was not what I wanted to do.

One of my instructors when I was taking A&P classes told a story about a mechanic buddy of his who got the dream job at Boeing. He quit after 6 months. He got tired of his work getting rejected by the inspector despite the fact that they where airworthy.

He had several years of sheetmetal aircraft experience when he was hired. The inspector got his job because he had worked as an inspector in a shoe factory.

With me, it was a personal invite from someone already there.

Do you have any Coop or intern experience? Is your GPA higher then 3.0? If not, forget it. I tried, got fed up with the run around, and went to work for a better company instead.

Anyone that wants a job at Boeing right now should submit a resume and app. We are hiring alot of different types, computing, engineers, drafters.
You might also try going through a contract house. If you like the job, try and go direct. If you don't like it, no harm done. If you want to send me your resume and I will direct it where appropriate. Use the e-mail link in my profile.

I finally interviewed with them last August and didn't happen! I have been submitting resumes for last two years and they finally called. To give you an example, I am one of the few west coast guys who has the most amount of experience on a package they are using. I also have 5 years of experience on another package from the same software company; since version 1.1
Despite all these qualifications they didn't call back. It's their loss.
I'd have liked living 3 miles from work site and working 300 yards from my flight school, but I make more money being on the road..
sometimes, it's hard to be a small fish in a big company like Boeing

Bahadir,

Which packages are those we are using that you are so experienced at?

I am working at a contract house now. It seems on their website there are a couple of jobs that just read Boeing. When my contract ends at the oil company maybe I will ask about those jobs.

Any word what other conract houses deal with Boeing?

L-188,

I'll ask my two contractors I have right now who they went through and let you know. I don't deal with the contract houses myself, I just get the people, so I'm not sure where we get them from.

I started my job search at Boeing about a month and a half or two months ago. Today, I am waiting to receive (on paper) my 2 job offers from Boeing (Everett). I'm an engineer and they are "hiring like crazy" for people to work on the 787. They had a large hiring event in SEA last week and one group I interviewed for was trying to fill 14 positions!

I think they may have learned their lessons and not maintain employment at such high levels to avoid such massive layoffs. It saves money and it saves the bad press (somewhat). They, like other big companies, are trying to outsource as much as possible.
That's why we're here.

I have a sour experience from my contract work with Boeing.. I started as a contractor in 2001 and was laid off in November 2001. In addition to that my experience with them came to a point where people in house was being hired to the positions where I would be perfect candidate.

It sickens me to see that people in professional forums from B. would ask very basic questions and in return would not even consider my resume despite all the job sumittals I did.

I wouldn't be surprised if I go into B again as a consultant by the software vendor.  Smile

Let's see if 3DD can do anything about it, but I am not really hopefull.

The best way to go is to apply online or find a way to attend one of Boeing's hiring events. Some of Boeing's hiring events allow walk-ins. As been said Boeing is hiring quite a few engineers. Of course if you have the experience to be a contractor that's also a route to go. Some of the popular contracting agencies at Boeing are Volt and CTS. They pay very well. My colleague with 4 years experience makes well over 100k/year and that's without any overtime. Good luck.

Thanks guys, just what I was looking for.

Gives me a chance to do some research on them, and see if they would be interested in a guy that just got his 4 year in logistics managment, minor in aviation technology and a two year degree for basicly attendence.
