We Got A Toaster That Also Cooks An Egg!

Wed Dec 21, 2005 9:30 am

Pop! voila! Instant breakfast sandwich. Everything comes up at the same time. I freakin' love it. If anyone's stumped for a last-minute gift idea, this one's a doozie.

until mcdonalds provides such a spray i dont really see the point of this tool of the devil.

No, but between this toaster and my Techni-Vorm coffee maker, I'me made Tim Hortons completely obsolete!

Yes, to a perfect 220 degrees, the optimum temperature. Every time.

You fry the sausage separately. If you pre-cook a bunch of them, you can heat them up in the toaster's "meat warmer" while you're cooking the egg.

Did you say meat warmer? Now I'm definitely getting one.

Water boils at 212 F. You cannot raise its temperature above that unless you have a chemical factory in your kitchen.

I don't use water. I use Dihydrogen Monoxide.

You cannot heat the liquid above 212 F, and last I checked coffee is a liquid, not a gas. Mark said the machine boiled his water to 220 F. While you can have super-heated steam, you cannot have super-heated coffee.

That's a physics question I've always wondered about. If you can force super-heated steam through coffee grounds, does it lower the temperature of the liquid to 212F instantaneously?

(There's also the boiling water in a microwave trick, where if it resides in a vessel without imperfections, the water continues to heat up, since there's nothing to boil off of.)

My guess would be "no," but in any case, if you spill it on your lap, be sure to sue somebody.

true.

I also believe that water is the only liquid that expands and contracts at lower temps. not at the same time of course.

While that is very true for pure water , most tap water is not pure. The extra ions that are present in tap water tend to lower its freezing point and raise its boiling point. That in combination that when the water is being heated up in a sealed container(that is to provide exit pressure) the vapor pressure of the water vapor in the conatiner should be enogh to also raise the boiling temp by a few degrees.

So 220F is a plausable temperature of liqid water.

PS: There also could be other substanses that are raising the overall temp while the water itself is around 212

Super geek.  Wink

BTW, MNeo, I'm a chemist and my job deals with regulating tap water in the US. I was just blowing some crap up Mark's a$$. Still, I doubt 220 is realistic due to ionic strength or exit pressure, but hell, it'd make a great Master's Thesis.  Wink
